With The Vow coming out this Friday, we’re excited for the chance to revisit a super-talented (and stylish) actress: Rachel McAdams. We’ve been fans of McAdams since she sauntered down the halls of North Shore High School as leader of the Plastics, then turned around and won our hearts as one-half of a star-crossed couple in the Notebook. Since then, she’s proven time and again that she can play the bad girl, the young ingénue, a fearless heroine, and everything in between.
Regardless of the character she’s playing, McAdams’ red-carpet style is always enviable. This girl is a fan of sleek glamour, but she’s also not afraid to take a little risk, whether it’s with her hair color (remember those pink streaks?) or a daring silhouette. We’ve chosen some of our favorite McAdams’ looks, from both on the screen and off.
For her break-out role as the despicable Regina George, McAdams rocked an array of miniskirts and a spectrum of pink.
As heiress Allie in the classic tear-jerker The Notebook, she got to sport the best of forties’ and fifties’ fashion: gorgeous suits and dresses, and some fabulous hats.
Although Midnight in Paris’s Inez plays the cynical foil to the charmingly naïve Gil, we have to admit that her clothes are great. As we’ve gushed about before, we loved the effortless, Euro-chic wardrobe.

And now, the red-carpet highlights, from pink hair at a Wedding Crashers premiere (has anyone else made neon highlights look so adorable?) to a sequined bustier and linen pants on the red carpet this year.
Babycakes bakery is great place to pick up treats if your sweetie is a vegan, these cupcakes are healthy, but still sure satisfy any sweet tooth
Strawberries are a great choice for Valentine’s Day. They’re loaded with healthy minerals and vitamins, the kind that boost your immune system, improve brain health, and slow aging. Add a little dark chocolate and you’ve got a treat very few people can resist. Yeah, that’s sweet.
Dark chocolate — a potent antioxidant known to lower blood pressure — covered almonds are packed with protein and vitamins that not only taste great, but are healthy as well. Unless your sweetie is allergic to nuts — we suggest you find that out first — these are the perfect Valentine’s gift.
Angel food cake is really a star in the world of baking and confection. Named because of it’s light and airy texture, this cake is great because it’s low in calories but still offers a delicious sweet taste without the guilt.
One of the perks of living in NYC? You never know who you’re going to run into. Early this morning, Jenna, tarte’s creative marketing manager bumped in creative great Simon Doonan on 5th Ave. In her own words:
“So sleepy this morning… but awake enough to notice Barneys New York‘s Creative Extraordinaire Simon Doonan walking down 5th Avenue next to me… which is why I had to grab him (with force) for a photo op. Ha! The best part? He was oh-so-genuinely-nice and what’s nicer than being nice AND having amazing style? They go hand in hand.”
Have you ever run into a living legend on the street? Tell us all about it, or better yet, share a photo!
February is the heart of winter, dark and cold but tinged with the knowledge that spring is just around the corner. Our polish choice: OPI’s Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees. A mysterious mix of purple, grey and blue, this color has just enough edge to get you through the winter.
Awards season has us regularly drooling over one incredible gown after another… and dreaming about what we would wear if we ever got the chance to saunter down the red carpet. Our non-movie-star salaries might not necessarily afford us Dior and Valentino, but it is possible to find glamorous formalwear that’s Hollywood-ready without blowing your entire paycheck. We’ve collected a few affordable options, all under $500, that we would be proud to sport down any crimson walkway (even if it’s just the one in our imaginations).
Angelina looked smoking hot in this drapey black Jenny Packham gown at the SAG awards… but we think she would have rocked this sexy Halston Heritage Halter just as well.
Our favorite look from the SAGs was Michelle Williams’ unique lace shift – a classic, ladylike silhouette meets screaming, siren red. An equally sexy option would be this ADAM sheath dress, whose gorgeous lace is amped up by a surprising pop of red.
The always-gorgeous Mila Kunis looked sleek and sexy for the Golden Globes in this black chiffon Dior. We dare you to compare it to this lovely Max & Cleo look, — all wrapped up with a bow.
Lea Michelle wowed at the SAGs in this flowy, one-shoulder number (not to mention the thigh-high slit!). Even though this Amsale version is slightly more subdued, we love its sweet champagne color and romantic, bodice-hugging shape. And if you’re still desperate for some leg, a tailor can make it happen for you in a snap.
Emily Blunt had us majorly envious of her emerald gown at the SAG awards – a simple, glamorous silhouette in an absolutely stunning shade. This ONE by Contrarian halter gown is in the same pretty jewel tone – made even sexier with its backless cut.
My top five favorite new tunes for a wintry weekend. Trust me, all your friends have these jams already. Don’t be the last to know, download these now!
1. Cage the Elephant, “Aberdeen”
From Bowling Green, Kentucky; these southern boys have made a name for themselves through high energy live performances and amazing lyrics — making them a huge hit in the U.S. and U.K.
2. The Wombats, “Jump into The Fog”
While they have a completely different sound than The Beatles, the two bands share the same home, Liverpool, and man, do they know how to rock. The Wombats have that awesome British feel to them that we all know and love. Want to indulge in some musical Anglophilia? Just plug in the headphones and turn it up.
3. M83, “Midnight City”
M83 is the brainchild of French musician Anthony Gonzalez. With a unique sound, M83 never disappoints. This is my go-to workout song when I’m feeling lazy and blah..it really gets my blood pumping!
4. Imperial Teen,“Runaway”
Having provided the soundtrack to the infamous and iconic scene of four teen beauties — the original mean girls — walking down their high school hallway in 1999’s twisted comedy Jawbreaker, Imperial Teen may be a throwback, but well worth a second glance. I’m thrilled that they are making such a strong impact. Check ‘em out!
5. The Naked and Famous, “Girls like you”
Who doesn’t love an import from Down Under?? The Naked and Famous is a New Zealand indie rock band from Auckland. Do yourself a favor and download them now. These guys are an incendiary force to be reckoned with.

Happy leap year tartelettes, and welcome to February!
If you’re anything like us, you know there’s nothing better than free time. We’ve decided to make the most of 2012′s extra day by spending the next 29 days focusing on what makes tarte tick: powerful, pure products and YOU: our passionate tartelettes.
Yes, you are just as important as our ingredients and innovations!
We love hearing your feedback and ideas. So this leap year we’re launching our ‘#tweets4tarte’ campaign, 29 ideas in 29 days.
The campaign is simple, we’re putting you in the creative driver’s seat. We’ll post a question about makeup, ingredients, design and many other topics on twitter and you answer it with gloves off honestly. Tell us what you really think about what we’re doing and what we should be doing — help us give YOU what YOU want.
Please read our terms & conditions.
At tarte, Valentine’s Day doesn’t discriminate. To us, it’s a holiday worth celebrating regardless of your romantic status. (…So, what’s yours?) And to help you start the V-Day party we asked a couple of ladies here in the office to spill on their love lives, their picks for a hot Valentine’s lip and their favorite drink recipes.
tarte position: The color corrector
m.o.: Bohemian chic with tomboy edge
status: My alter ego is ‘hot single Mel.” I had my heart torn apart a few months ago. In order to get back on my dating feet, I created HSM – a super confident and happier version of me. But now, I really am her.
Valentine’s libation: Painting the town red
Combine 2bottles of red wine, 3 oz of gin, 2 tablespoons of sugar in the raw, 1 cup of frozen raspberries, 1 cup of fresh strawberries, 1 sliced lemon lemon & 1 sliced lime in a large punch bowl (Yes, a bowl! You’re having your girlfriends over after all). Stir the mixture and let it sit overnight in the refrigerator. Pour the sangria into glasses filled halfway with ice and top off with guarana soda.
And the girl in love…
tarte position: The cashwrap ring leader
m.o.: Urban modern mixed with rocker chic
status: We’ve been married nearly 4 years, but we’ve been living together for 19. When we met, marriage was not a priority for either of us because it was a mutual “I choose you.” After a decade and a half of weathering life’s ups and downs, we decided to celebrate our life shared and our future together by tying the knot. My one condition “I’ll marry you if I can still be your girlfriend.”
Valentine’s libation: Staying in love
Mix Patron Tequila, Cointreau and pink grapefruit juice.
Add a large squeeze of lime,
Then garnish with a lime.
