Fashion & Style
Happy Friday, tartelettes! What do you all have planned for this weekend? A girls’ night? A celebration? Maybe… a hot date?
If your night-off plans include the latter, then this post is for you! Last week we covered eco-friendly bathing suits, now’s the time for an even sexier item of green clothing: sustainable lingerie.
We’ve found a few amazing brands that perfectly balance romantic with earth-friendly. These pieces are just as gorgeous – (if not more so – many are hand-made to order!) – as the mainstream brands. You’ll surely love them for their sustainable ethos. Your date however, may be too distracted to care.
Stella McCartney – one of our ever-present, ethical faves! The girl knows what “sexy” is.
R.A.W lingerie is made of sweet pieces that have been naturally hand-dyed by the line’s founder, Rio Wrenn.
Urban Fox is our latest and greatest discovery: “All of our undies and undie sets are designed, dyed and sewn by hand from machine-processed bamboo and organic cotton blends in the U.S.A.” Organic, check; sustainable, check; domestic, check! Oh, and don’t forget: irresistible.
Eberjey has long been known for their flattering cuts and supremely soft materials. Now, they’ve launched a lovely eco-line, which includes such stunners as this teddy, made from bamboo jersey.
For a sweetly sustainable slumber, People Tree has you covered – we love their Rose Slip Dress, made from 100% organic Fair trade cotton.
The weather is warming up and pretty soon you’ll have no choice but to pull on a pair of short shorts, wear a belly-bearing top, or hit the street in a sleeveless tank.
Whether you’re a born jock or scrambling to follow a fitness routine for the sake of a summer-ready body, nothing can amp you up for a workout faster than pretty and flattering new gym clothes. Here, we’ve taken the guesswork out of fitness apparel shopping. Swap out your old sweats, get your heart rate pumping and face summer fearlessly.
Work it, girl!
We’re not going to lie: when we were growing up, we drew most of our fashion inspiration from a mischief-making pair of girls who went by the singular title of “Mary-Kate and Ashley.” Even now, we still find ourselves seeking out the latest photo shoots and interviews of the stylish duo to find out what we should be wearing. So, when younger sister Elizabeth appeared on the Hollywood scene last year, we thought, “Poor girl! Who could stand out from the long shadow of MK&A?”
We needn’t have worried. Little Lizzie has proven to be a full-blown actress and style maven in her own right. With her ability to rock both vintage glam and hipster cool, she’s our new favorite girl crush.
tartelettes, May has arrived, and you know what that means: swimsuit season! Although bathing suit shopping sometimes gets a bad rap, this blogger happens to love sifting through all those racks of brightly colored fabric and fun silhouettes. And now, with the growing selection of eco-friendly options out there, it’s even more enjoyable. Designers big and small are incorporating recycled materials, organic fabrics, and natural dyes into their designs, so that green fashionistas no longer have to choose between standards and style!
Here are a few brands who have amped up their swimwear with a dose of sexy sustainability, with looks to suit any beach style.

As the name implies, Eco Swim is all about sustainable swimwear: all their fabrics are made from recycled materials.

Could this bright frilly one-piece be any cuter? Aussie brand Emobi uses earth-friendly, water-based dyes in their signature bright prints.

Vitamin A has been the go-to swimsuit brand for Hollywood’s A-List for years because of their alluring designs and flattering cuts. Now, they’ve launched a gorgeous capsule collection made from 100% recycled nylon.

Odina embodies both functionatlity and responsibility. Their surfer-friendly suits are made from recycled nylon and spandex; their nylon is made from post-consumer plastics. Pretty amazing – and just plain pretty.
What will you be sporting on the beach this summer?
Yesterday the tarte team got a nice surprise package from Water Bobble! The company, who’s mission is to make clean water portable while helping to eliminate plastic water bottle waste, sent over a big box of their innovative and beautifully designed reusable, water filtering bottles. The bobble’s filters are replaceable, but each one equates to 300 single-serve bottles. Yeah, that’s a lot of bottles.
Both functional and attractive, we’re psyched to test out our new bobbles. Thanks Water Bobble, you truly do make water better!
As our online marketing manager, Staci is all business. Part number cruncher, part saleswomen, she’s tasked with getting our products in to the hands of tartelettes across the nation. She also has a creative streak and an appreciation for beauty, like everyone in the tarte office. We stopped by her desk to see what she needs within arms reach on the daily.

tartelettes, if you haven’t heard, Tone It Up is hosting another Bikini Series — 8 weeks of fitness, nutrition, beauty and fun to get you summer-ready — and we’ll be part of their summer beauty bag giveaway!
We stopped by their meet-up with Self Magazine at the Oakley store in Times Square today to check in with these bronzed fitness divas — and envy their already bikini-ready bods. Yeah, that’s me in the middle photo!

Love her music or hate it, there’s no arguing that, in the short time she’s been on the scene, Lana Del Rey has made quite the splash. Since her web debut last summer, the girl has already performed on Saturday Night Live, appeared on the cover of Vogue UK, won multiple “best new artist” awards, and sparked a lot of conversations.
This blogger happens to find her songs equal parts sultry, sticky (try getting “Video Games” out of your head), and addictive. Del Rey’s stuff is like sugary cereal: there’s not much to it, but it tastes good. And her sartorial style’s refreshing, too: amidst a pop music scene dominated by the outlandishness of Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry, the self-described “gangster Nancy Sinatra” stands out by looking bad-ass and polished at the same time. Del Rey’s style is a combination of old-school glamour (winged eye liner, lady-like dresses), major bombshell appeal, rock star edge (tats and gold rings) – and the occasional quirky sneaker thrown in for good measure.
This unapologetic mix of style, attitude and saccharine makes the up-and-coming songstress our girl crush of the day. Who’s your girl crush?
