the best holiday movies. ever

Candy canes, eggnog, champagne – oh my! The holiday season is in full swing, tartelettes. In between stalking down the perfect gifts and attending the mad rush of festive parties, we like to wind down with a quiet night here and there. Nothing gets us in the seasonal spirit better than curling up with a warm cup of cheer and a great holiday movie. These are our favorites — ones we re-visit each year. What are yours?

Love Actually
This one’s a no-brainer. Charming and clever, with a cast that includes some delicious man candy (hi, Colin!) and fabulous leading ladies.

Not a fan of fright flicks? James Bond returns in November and there’s a host of comedies premiering this fall, too. Just make sure to apply your lights, camera, splashes!™ mascara to guard against runs when you start laughing so hard you cry.

the (fashion) perks of being a wallflower…

Emma Watson is simply adorable as Sam in the new movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Not only does she truly shine in her portrayal of the restless high school senior, but she absolutely nails the look.  From the haircut to the shoes, she mixes angsty  with stylish flair and gives us a little insight to this season’s fall fashion trends. icon envy: grace kelly or elizabeth taylor

Achieving the status of timeless beauty icon is no easy feat, nor is it based on looks alone. Sure these women scored in the genetic lottery — Grace’s bone structure seems to defy the laws of nature, and Liz’s double rows of eyelashes were a (lucky) genetic mutation — but pretty faces aside, the two stunners were able to maintained the public’s attention with poise, mystery, elegance and flair — while carving out their own distinct personalities.

girl crush: sutton foster

Calling all current, former, and wanna-be ballerinas: if you haven’t caught the new dance drama that is Bunheads, you are seriously missing out. It’s got all the makings of a romance-cum-comedy-cum-drama, but with ballet… and a wise-cracking, shot-taking, plié-ing leading lady played by newcomer Sutton Foster. Dance shows and movies can be tricky, given the difficulty of finding someone who can both pas de bourrée and play a complicated character convincingly. But, with her Broadway background, Sutton has the dancing and acting chops for both — all the while rocking a cool California-girl look and, of course, making us laugh.

Sutton, we’re hooked.

girl crush: Jessica Chastain

It’s pretty obvious that 2011 was a breakout year for Jessica Chastain. Suddenly, this ethereal redhead seemed to be floating down every major red carpet, leaving us all asking – who is that girl?

We quickly found out: a poised starlet who can hold her own in films both artsy (Tree of Life) and mass-market (The Help) – and whose versatile, romantic style literally makes us weak in the knees. All that together make her oh-so crush worthy.

Who’s your girl crush?

girl crush: Emma Roberts

With famous pops Eric and ultra-famous aunt Julia, some might say that Emma Roberts was born to be a Hollywood star. Maybe, but one thing we know for sure is that this girl has talent, poise and style. Sweet faced and wholesome, she seems like the type of girl we’d be friends with, she also possesses a subtle yet playful fashion sense and some serious acting chops, making her our girl crush of the day.

girl crush: Elizabeth Olsen

We’re not going to lie: when we were growing up, we drew most of our fashion inspiration from a mischief-making pair of girls who went by the singular title of “Mary-Kate and Ashley.” Even now, we still find ourselves seeking out the latest photo shoots and interviews of the stylish duo to find out what we should be wearing. So, when younger sister Elizabeth appeared on the Hollywood scene last year, we thought, “Poor girl! Who could stand out from the long shadow of MK&A?”

We needn’t have worried. Little Lizzie has proven to be a full-blown actress and style maven in her own right. With her ability to rock both vintage glam and hipster cool, she’s our new favorite girl crush.
