As a lover of all things chemical-free, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite organic denim brands — and the celebs who wear them. These blue jeans are earth-friendly, natural and have serious style.
Good morning tartelettes!
Have you heard, Manolo Blahnik’s gone green?! The infamous powerhouse has a new sustainable shoe collection, and it’s everything an eco-conscious fashionista could ask for and more! I love reading about these type of collaborations, especially when related to my most favorite accessory: shoes! Designer Marcia Patmos was asked to create an eco-friendly line for the label, and after spending a considerable amount of time researching sustainable material, came up with two incredible styles made out of tilapia skin (interestingly enough a byproduct from the food industry), cork and raffia. These beautiful shoes — an adorable open-toe flat and a sexy, strappy sandal — come in gorgeous color combinations: nude, yellow, black and electric blue.
These are the first earth-friendly designs to be released by Manolo Blahnik and I couldn’t be more thrilled to see the fashion heavyweight take up the green cause! Like we always say, luxury and sustainability are not mutually exclusive. What do you gals think of the latest eco-friendly creations?
Some of my favorite snacks of all time, I cannot keep Peeled Snacks keep to myself; they’re like gummy treats for adults made with organic and all-natural ingredients — no sugar or oil added. I can’t go a day without some of their dried mango.
Peeled supports local farmers and growers when organic crops are not readily available, and they strive to use the most environmentally sustainable business practices. For their product display cases, they use recycled paper making them not only delicious, but ecologically friendly.
Take a bite out of that!
Lately I’ve been obsessed with Kaia House’s amazing eco friendly nail polishes. The brand offers beautiful shades that suite any style. Say goodbye to those harsh chemicals, because Kaia Houses’ organic Bio-Polishes, just like your favorite tarte cosmetics, are free of phthalates, toluene and formaldehyde — even celebs like Rachel Bilson and Jessica Alba have become devotees. Swing by their site and while you’re there be sure to snag a bottle of the soy nail polish remover they offer, it’s free of pegs, parabens, phthalates and formaldehyde too!
Organic eco-nail polishes in chic shades right at our fingertips, what more could a girl ask for?
Never head of Isopure? If you own a gym membership (or ever thought about owing one) it’s about time you did. Isopure is a clear, yummy 100% whey protein isolate. Yeah, we’d never heard of whey protein isolates either. Basically, it’s a tasty, fruity pre- or post-workout drink that will give you the edge on achieving your fittest figure ever.
This October Isopure is launching their “Props to your body” Facebook challenge . This campaign recognizes those who are dedicated to getting their body in gear durring the holiday season — from powering through a marathon to completing a first pull up or joining a gym after having a baby.
Starting on October 6th, you can enter by liking Isopure on Facebook and posting a comment on why you’re giving props to your bod, illustrating the post with a personal video and/or picture.
Each week Isopure will select one winner to score some Isopure swag and earn a place in Isopure’s “Props Hall of Fame.” The top 6 winners will move on to the championship round, where the fans and the entire Isopure crew will vote on a grand prize winner who will take home a year’s supply of protein powder and other fun gear worth a $1,000!

Fall has arrived and with it comes a host of tasty temptations — but keeping fit and indulging in the party season aren’t mutually exclusive. Follow these simple steps and you’ll be rocking a svelte figure straight on through the New Year.
Avoid fall comfort food: Fall baking is oh-so-delicious and oh-so-calorie packed. Instead of using traditional recipes Google healthy options for favorites like banana bread or butternut squash soup.
Resist hibernation: It’s easier to become less active as it gets darker earlier. Try joining a gym, or sign up for a workout class with a friend to maintain motivation.
Party Smart: Awesome holiday parties mean alcoholic drinks galore — and those can add some serious numbers to your caloric intake. Limit drinks or opt for water to stay hydrated and keep from adding on pounds.
Curtail the Candy: Stop stealing candy out of your children’s or younger brother or sister’s trick or treat bags…you didn’t earn it and you sure don’t need it. Sweets can derail any plans for healthy eating. Instead, indulge in healthy snacks like popcorn or dark chocolate covered fruits.
Jen here, introducing my new column Jen’s Pick, where I’ll be sharing eco-friendly must-haves that I just can’t keep to myself!
The Details: SAAKO Scarves. Handmade in Barcelona, these incredible pieces are edgy, trendy and currently at the top of my fall fashion accessory list.
The Low Down: Design geniuses Ines Brito and Joana Gouveia began experimenting with jersey in 1989, turning the material into trendy neckwear. With ‘reuse’ as their creative philosophy, they produced earthy and vibrant scarves from recycled fabrics.
What’s to Love: SAAKO scarves are extremely comfortable, affordable, and add a bohemian edge to any look, making them a fantastic year-round addition to your closet. Plus, they also make great gifts!
– 1 bunch kale, de-stemmed (can be bought at an organic grocery or health food store)
– ¼ cup raw cashews, soaked for several hours to soften
– 1 red bell pepper
– 1 tbsp curry powder
– ½ tsp cumin
– 1 tsp sea salt
– 1 clove garlic, chopped
– ¼ sweet onion, chopped
– ½ tbsp nutritional yeast (optional, a vegan way to add a “cheesy” flavor)
- Preheat your oven to 300 degrees and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- To de-stem your kale, pull all of the wide, leafy green parts off of the thick stalks. Place all of these in a large mixing bowl and set aside.
- Blend all of your ingredients, beginning with the cashews, until a thick “paste” has formed. If you do not have a blender, you can use unsalted cashew butter and mix the remaining ingredients by hand.
- “Massage” the paste onto your kale. Take a small amount of the paste into your hands and coat each piece of kale. Continue until all pieces are lightly coated in the paste. This is not as time-consuming as it sounds, I promise!
- Here is the tricky part: figuring out how long to leave in your kale. Start by seeing how the kale looks after 10 minutes. If the paste looks slightly cooked through and the kale looks crunchy, flip and bake for another 10 minutes. If the paste has not cooked, allow them to bake on the first side for another 10 minutes, then flip and bake until done. Once you figure out this timing, you will know how long it takes for your latter batches.
- Allow the kale chips to cool, and then devour! Make your office-mates green (literally!) with envy.
How do you snack healthy?
Hello beautiful tartelettes! I’m Charlotte, one of tarte’s marketing & PR interns as well as a freelance makeup artist for the line. I’m so happy to announce that I’ve been given the incredible opportunity to blog about all of my favorite things – clean eating, fun exercise, the gorgeous outdoors, fabulous fashion, and most importantly: amazing makeup! tarte’s high-performance natural™ products are staples in my professional kit as well as in my personal stash, and I hope that you gals enjoy them just as much!
I guess you can say that liquid lipstick runs through my veins. At age 20, my grandmother Marie moved from a tiny town nestled in the foothills of the Berkshires to NYC, which was a quite daring move in 1945. She soon found a job at a certain famed red door salon, working her way up from “treatment girl” to on-call makeup artist for numerous NYC socialites and celebrities. She later left the salon to freelance, painting the faces of Marilyn Monroe, famed 60s supermodel Verushka, and the Beatles, all whilst working on national campaigns for major cosmetic and hair companies. Her whirlwind career inspired me; from the time I was a young girl, I wanted to be a makeup artist. At age fifteen, I began working on editorial photo shoots in NYC, and I continue to update and improve my portfolio to this day.
What attracted me to tarte, at first, was their huge array of products that are not only pretty (both in the packaging and on the face!), but that they’re formulated without many harmful ingredients, such as parabens and phthalates. The fact that they’re vegan is also a major plus – as an animal-lover, it breaks my heart to think that many commercially-available cosmetics are tested on animals. tarte’s “green beauty” philosophy suits my lifestyle to a tee – and I hope you gorgeous girls feel the same way! I’m so happy to have the opportunity to be here and share my experience with you.
Peace, love, and health!
