Holiday Curls from Calista Tools
Holidays, weekends, Mondays and every day: I’m a fan of curls! Big, bouncy, glamorous curls and beachy-waves, I’ll take it all! Dressed up or down, curls can be both polished and sexy. To be honest, I actually think I walk a little taller when my hair is Gisele-curled. Over the past 10 years I’ve tried every tool on the market (literally) & finally mastered my style with a BaByliss 1 ¼” curling iron…until now! During one of my recent trips to QVC with Maureen, I was chatting with Maria McCool, owner and stylist of the chic Calista Salon. Being as curl obsessed as I am, she gave me the sneak peak of the yet-to-be-released Ion Hot Rollers. Throughout the years, Maria has featured some incredible hair products on QVC, but these Ion Hot Rollers are something else! Safe to say it was love at first sight and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. In the words of Mr. Trump, “YOU’RE FIRED (BaByliss)!”
Prior to Maria giving me the inside scoop, I was already a fan of her techniques and the salon. In fact, Monica, one of her stylists, cut my hair in the past—love her! So yesterday you can imagine how excited I was when a package arrived for me! And I couldn’t help but hit the blog to boast about them and my fabulous waves. The rollers exclusive launch will be on QVC tomorrow, 11/20 at 10:00pm EST. And believe me, you must tune in!
So, what makes these different than your average drugstore set you ask? Well, I am more than happy to share. Calista’s Ion hot rollers use Creat Ion Technology which means that the actual plastic is created with 32 different minerals that are baked together to create the outer shell (most iconic tools only coat the top layer of the curler). These minerals infuse the hair with shine, body, volume & fullness (check out my video on tarte TV for a demo!). The core of the curler houses a PTC heater which allows the entire roller to heat itself instead of sitting in a base with hot metal rods. Additionally, the set comes with 12 hot rollers, 6 of which are twice the length of a traditional roller. Translation: Long-haired girls rejoice because you can finally have a curler that will deliver a full curl root to tip. I can go on all day about why every beauty aficionado needs these, but here’s just a few more reasons: no burnt fingers, no product lifetime, 3-minute heating time and most importantly quick & easy bouncy locks!
For more details and demos from the hair guru herself, watch QVC Saturday night at 10pm to see Maria. I’m sure you’ll end up checking out with more than just these curlers. While you’re at it stay tuned because Maureen is up on the Q right after Maria with some amazing tarte goodies.

A Hairy Situation
With fall just around the corner, I wanted to update my look for the new fashion season. When I’m in the mood for change, I just do it and don’t think twice. Last weekend on a whim, I decided I’d get a dramatic haircut. So, I chopped off 8 inches! And it feels good (literally)! My hair feels so healthy and I feel rejuvenated and ready for that autumn breeze.

Meanwhile, I wasn’t the only one feeling the need for a new look. Candace went back to her roots. For as long as I’ve known her she had golden blonde hair with light highlights. She’s now a medium blonde with light blonde highlights. She was inspired after seeing a few September magazines, especially the latest Harper’s Bazaar with Jennifer Anniston on the cover.
So we’re sending a little love to our favorite stylists: Antonio, owner Senses NY Salon and Spa & Jackie, stylist at deJensen Salon & Spa in Sea Girt, NJ! Anyone else out there looking to update her look for the fall? Tell us about it—we want to hear/see it!!

mmyHair Perfection in 1, 2?!
I have very long & thick hair that is cut into long layers–no, I’m not complaining. However, I do have two gripes when it comes to my tresses that I think affects most of us: flyaways & frizzy ends. You know what I am talking about; right after you spend too much time on your blowout and your part is full of stand up broken pieces. Or when your stylist gives you the perfect piece-y layers and then when you try to replicate, the ends of the layers look more like the edge of a broom—ick. Well, fret not! A few years ago my style-savvy friend Sam introduced me to 2 products that solved my issues: Emi-Jay hair ties & Kiehl’s Crème with Silk Groom. Another confirmation these are AMAZING— I was flipping through this month’s InStyle Hair issue and they featured BOTH products in their ‘Great Hair A-Z’ article!
Why so great? Emi-Jay ponytail holders are the second greatest thing for hair damage since Goody eliminated the metal bits on their ponytail holders. One day two teenage pals from LA, Emi and Jay, decided to sell the elastic hair accessories they had been making for themselves. Now, it’s a stylist favorite. I first saw these when Sam was wearing one on her wrist (she also hails from LA); I thought it was just another silly bracelet stacked amongst the others. When I was complaining about my ponytail dent over lunch, she pulled her “silly bracelet” off her wrist and handed it over. From that moment on I was hooked & the next day I ordered a whole tub (see below). These simple ties have the perfect elasticity, don’t leave a pony dent and WON’T RIP YOUR HAIR.
Sam’s second hair rescue was Kiehl’s Crème with Silk Groom. This rich cream moisturizes and protects hair & although the directions suggest to apply it to damp hair before drying, I do the opposite. After I blowout my hair I apply the smallest pea-size amount to my hands, rub them together then apply lightly to the edges of my hair & my part. A little goes a long way with this non-greasy formula & it does exactly what its name claims: Silk Groom. It seems to close off and treat any tears in both the hair shaft and cuticle. Pretty simple, pretty amazing.
So, whether it’s static in the winter or humidity in the summer you can have hair as perfect as Emmy Rossum’s. Who would have thought no-damage was as easy as two products?!

Locks of Love
~I made a major change this weekend… I cut 11” of my hair off!! And it was all for a good cause. I donated it all to Locks of Love, a charity that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. So, in honor of my Nana, I went for it and now have a new Nicole Richie-inspired hairdo. Doing something nice for others not only makes you feel good but it also can make you look good! -ericaSep 4th
