So last week TOPSHOP, the mecca of UK style, hit the states. How many of you were able to check out the new New York flagship? I have friends that waited for over 2 hours to get their hands on the latest styles. For now, I’m doing my shopping at I’ll wait till the crowds disappear. They will eventually, right?!

Some of my addictions, vices, whatever you might call them: my morning caffeine, sour candy and reality TV melodramas. I’m now adding a new one to that list—POPCHIPS!! I’ve never been a huge chip eater, but these are all-natural, never fried and never baked! The best part: they taste delish! At 100 calories a pop (pun intended) it’s total guilt free snacking. They’re available in original, barbeque, sea salt & vinegar and salt & pepper—I’m partial to the BBQ I just can’t get enough!

Pizza & Vino–Perfect!

This weekend we were able to have another girls’ night out! The destination: Mario Batali’s acclaimed OTTO Enoteca Pizzeria. Serving classic Italian pizza and showcasing over 700 wines, this place definitely took me back to Italy. I haven’t been to Italy since my days abroad and this Fifth Avenue destination was definitely cheaper than the cross-Atlantic flight! I’d suggest the Quattro Formaggi pizza (4 cheese) and a glass of the Orvieto Classico—delish!

Rolling Stone

2 words: Taylor Swift. She might be 19, but this girl rocks—two covers in one month and still leading the U.S. pop charts for 11 weeks. I’m a big music fan (yes, I can be caught with my iPod on singing along to Love Story) and when I got the March issue of Rolling Stone I was so pumped to see her on the cover. Aside from being distracted by her party girl golden locks I couldn’t help but revel in the tarte credit for her makeup cover look! How cool, right?! OK, I digress—back to Taylor. Just reading that feature made me like her more. Totally down-to- earth and driven. Oh and did I mention, she writes or co-writes all of her music. That’s so impressive. It was really refreshing to read about a successful teenager with real goals and determination.

Brunch Date!

What every neighborhood needs and every New Yorker wants is a chill, go-to Sunday brunch spot. So this weekend I suggest you extend your Saturday dinner-date with your Vday crush (or your favorite single girlfriends) to Sunday morning brunch at Jane in the West Village. This American bistro is the perfect downtown spot for two (or more). The vanilla bean French toast is to die for. Ohh and this comes with an alcoholic beverage of your choice (good morning mimosas)! Unlike many NYC brunch spots they do accept reservations. Being as chic as Jane is you can expect a crowd so be sure to go to before you attempt a walk-in! And this is no plain Jane, the ingredients that make their hearty dishes so amazing are sought out to be local, natural, organic & sustainable. Enjoy!

Island Getaway Getup

So as January goes, it’s a snowy, slushy day in NYC. All I could think about, as I tried to avoid nasty puddles on my way to the office, were hot temperatures, palm trees and resort wear. Ahhh yes, resort wear. That leads me to today’s fashion fantasy. Check out this new dress from Matthew Williamson’s collection. I know it will NEVER hang in my wardrobe, but can’t a girl dream? This sun-drenched maxi is nothing but feel-good fashion and I just adore the details! This is just one of those items that make me smile. If I had this on now, I think even NYC would feel a little like paradise. Don’t you think?

Tapas time!

It’s Friday! And tonight I’m planning on happy hour with the girls in NYC. It’s always hard for us to make a date, but we’re all able to hang out this evening. We enjoy trying some place new—I try to keep a running list of restaurants and bars I read about in New York Magazine. On our agenda tonight is Sala 19 in the Flatiron district. This Spanish hotspot is cozy and chic with old-world flair. Not to mention the tapas are supposedly amazing! If that’s not tempting enough, then what about their deal: 2 for 1 pitcher of Sangria? Hello, count me in. So, what are you doing tonight?

Time for Change…and for a new fashion designer

Out with the old, in with the new. Yesterday marked a monumental day in history—President Obama officially took the reigns. I loved listening to his inauguration speech. It was just so inspiring. And, wow, I must say that the First Lady looked amazing last night! There’s been buzz for some time as to whom Michelle Obama would be donning to the Ball. She surprised many (including me) with her decision to go with Jason Wu. But, wow, was that one-shoulder, white gown just stunning, or what? Jason is a 26-year-old, New York-designer, who launched his collection in 2006. It’s safe to say that the First Lady’s glamorous chiffon choice has just taken his fashion career to a whole new level. An additional nod of approval came from the President, “First of all, how good looking is my wife?” I’d say an all-around night of achievements and one very fashionable First Lady! And as tradition goes, after wearing it to 10 fabulous parties, this fashion statement will live on at the Smithsonian.

A recent addition to my collection of coffee table books is Influence, the new compilation of interviews from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. These twins seem to have had business savvy characteristics in their blood since birth and this next accomplishment they can add to that lengthy tally. This near 300 page book features 20 interviews (some together, some separate) with an array of influential icons, some of which they have known for years and others they were meeting for the first time. I loved their choice of individuals and thought it was a great representation of art, fashion and lifestyle. My personal favorite was Diane Von Furstenberg a woman I myself admire. Another great caption was with writer Bob Colacello, where MK couldn’t get enough about the days of partying in the factory with Andy Warhol (possibly why she is always spotted at swanky joints such as the Beatrice Inn.) All-in-all bravo to the Olsen’s! What a fabulous glimpse into some of the most creative and influential minds!

As the saying goes ‘No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.’ And with the warmer weather and sunfilled days, I’m planning to take advantage of what NYC has to offer. There’s the Cherry Blossom festival, games at Yankee Stadium, eating at the yummy Shake Shack, and the Tribeca Film Festival all going on this spring. Enjoy! -Heather R
