As with any accessory, with the seasons so go the trends; here are the nail looks we’ll be rocking this fall. More >
It’s been a while since we saluted the stunning nail art that walks through the doors of the tarte office, and when we saw this lovely design — hand painted by our senior graphic designer Erica — we knew it deserved some fanfare.
What kind of polish are you rocking this summer?
It’s pouring rain in NYC, and I thought Bianca, tarte’s graphic designer, was rocking nails that totally captured the gloomy, city mood. A little bit goth, a little bit flash — she layered OPI’s silver shatter over a sleek noir shade called black lingerie. And yes, that is Kate Moss’s face in the background.
What polish are you sporting today?
What’s not to love about butter London nail polish? A 3 Free company, their products are formulated without Formaldehyde, Toluene and DBP, plus they feature some serious rock star colors. The shade above is called Slapper — part of their summer 2012 collection – an incredibly versatile and fun polish that can liven up any outfit. To cheer up a gloomy and rainy Wednesday, our customer service rep Jen decided to slap on a coat (pun intended), and things are already looking brighter.
February is the heart of winter, dark and cold but tinged with the knowledge that spring is just around the corner. Our polish choice: OPI’s Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees. A mysterious mix of purple, grey and blue, this color has just enough edge to get you through the winter.
Lately I’ve been obsessed with Kaia House’s amazing eco friendly nail polishes. The brand offers beautiful shades that suite any style. Say goodbye to those harsh chemicals, because Kaia Houses’ organic Bio-Polishes, just like your favorite tarte cosmetics, are free of phthalates, toluene and formaldehyde — even celebs like Rachel Bilson and Jessica Alba have become devotees. Swing by their site and while you’re there be sure to snag a bottle of the soy nail polish remover they offer, it’s free of pegs, parabens, phthalates and formaldehyde too!
Organic eco-nail polishes in chic shades right at our fingertips, what more could a girl ask for?
It’s a gorgeous day in NYC and tomorrow marks the first day of Spring—finally! That being said, we want to be sure to update you on all the hottest trends of the season. We have already encouraged you to embrace floral attire, tarte’s new gel lip stains have become an instant hit & next up is the spring polish du jour—opaque putty!
This spring the beautifully edgy shades of putty, mauve, gray, mushroom (take your pick)are the perfect complement to any outfit & skin tone. The look first caught my eye when MAC launched its Hello Kitty collection last year including the original lacquer ‘On The Prowl’. Although gray is often a dismal shade, this spring it’s the perfect contemporary twist to played out pastels. The trend covers a nice range of mushroom hues & was catapulted into the ultimate must-have when Chanel creative genius, Peter Phillips, launched his mauvey-manicure on the fashion house’s spring 2010 runway. The color, appropriately named Particulière, flew off their counter as soon as it was put out. An instant Chanel sell out, are we not surprised?
This brings me to my latest putty-licious find, Deborah Lippmann’s Waking Up In Vegas! The name says it all for this cloudy gray hue & celeb manicurist Deborah Lippmann knows her stuff when it comes to crafting the ‘it’ color for the most fashion-forward hands. An extra bonus—her polishes are free from Formaldehyde, Toluene & Dibutyl Phthalates!

Hello, my name is Amelia, and I am addicted to manicured nails. Now, I know you’re thinking “Welcome to 2009. What stylish woman isn’t?” O, but my love runs deeper than the average pretty gal’s.
By the fourth grade, I was rocking a red manicure on the regular. (Thanks, Mama) A few years later, I announced that I would be learning a trade when I started doing my own French manicures. I am as well versed in OPI and Essie polish names as any aesthetician- Meet me in “Lincoln Park After Dark” with a tray of “Cajun Shrimp,” “Mademoiselle.”
I say all of this to say that I know my polish! And I have found a set that will have your digits dancing to “Hot Child in the City” all summer long. Zoya’s La-Di-Da sampler embodies the shades of summer in rich reds, punchy pinks, neon orange and a not-so-mellow yellow.
My first trip into La-Di-Da land was the tomato-red shade of America, which is equal parts 50s housewife and screen siren. I knew it was a keeper when fem-fab designer Shoshane Lonstein Gruss complimented me on the color. Sa-woon! I next ventured towards the orange-alert shade of Paz, and the slightest hand gesture had people going absolutely ape over my fingers. One woman got kissing-close as she expressed her love for the shade.
For a look that is super summer-time sexy, pair these girly nail colors with the flirty hues of tarte’s Lips Ahoy lipgloss set. You’ll be saying “Ahoy, fun in the sun!” before you know it!
Zoya is delivering a one-two punch when it comes to finger fashion—incredibly long-lasting polish that is also au naturale and toxin-free.
La-Di-Da is a steal at $36 for six haute hues, so get to polishing, chicsters!
