Holiday Curls from Calista Tools
Holidays, weekends, Mondays and every day: I’m a fan of curls! Big, bouncy, glamorous curls and beachy-waves, I’ll take it all! Dressed up or down, curls can be both polished and sexy. To be honest, I actually think I walk a little taller when my hair is Gisele-curled. Over the past 10 years I’ve tried every tool on the market (literally) & finally mastered my style with a BaByliss 1 ¼” curling iron…until now! During one of my recent trips to QVC with Maureen, I was chatting with Maria McCool, owner and stylist of the chic Calista Salon. Being as curl obsessed as I am, she gave me the sneak peak of the yet-to-be-released Ion Hot Rollers. Throughout the years, Maria has featured some incredible hair products on QVC, but these Ion Hot Rollers are something else! Safe to say it was love at first sight and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. In the words of Mr. Trump, “YOU’RE FIRED (BaByliss)!”
Prior to Maria giving me the inside scoop, I was already a fan of her techniques and the salon. In fact, Monica, one of her stylists, cut my hair in the past—love her! So yesterday you can imagine how excited I was when a package arrived for me! And I couldn’t help but hit the blog to boast about them and my fabulous waves. The rollers exclusive launch will be on QVC tomorrow, 11/20 at 10:00pm EST. And believe me, you must tune in!
So, what makes these different than your average drugstore set you ask? Well, I am more than happy to share. Calista’s Ion hot rollers use Creat Ion Technology which means that the actual plastic is created with 32 different minerals that are baked together to create the outer shell (most iconic tools only coat the top layer of the curler). These minerals infuse the hair with shine, body, volume & fullness (check out my video on tarte TV for a demo!). The core of the curler houses a PTC heater which allows the entire roller to heat itself instead of sitting in a base with hot metal rods. Additionally, the set comes with 12 hot rollers, 6 of which are twice the length of a traditional roller. Translation: Long-haired girls rejoice because you can finally have a curler that will deliver a full curl root to tip. I can go on all day about why every beauty aficionado needs these, but here’s just a few more reasons: no burnt fingers, no product lifetime, 3-minute heating time and most importantly quick & easy bouncy locks!

Super Saturday 13!
During the summer the Hamptons are filled with high-profile bashes, but nothing beats a mid-afternoon shopping soirée with ALL proceeds going to charity. This past weekend marked the annual Super Saturday 13 event at Nova’s Ark Project in Water Mill, N.Y. (South Hampton). This giant, outdoor sample sale has rows of incredible designers & generous sponsors all supporting an amazing foundation: The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. tarte was honored to be back for our 7th year; but don’t let us fool you it’s not ALL work and no play. At some points throughout the day Maureen, Candace, Leigh & I enjoyed shopping along with the massive crowds! Although, I picked-up some great buys from kooba, J Brand, DVF & others I fully enjoyed celeb spotting some fab fashionistas like Kelly Ripa, Ashley Greene, Rachel Zoe & the Kardashian sisters! Despite 90-degree temperatures, they all looked fabulous.
In addition to the designer booths, brands and celebrities also have the opportunity to sell their products live on QVC. As the Broadcast Sponsor, The Q was able to promote Super Saturday 13 nationwide. So even if you couldn’t attend the event, you could still help support the cause! Both the sales of the live broadcast and qvc.com (during that time slot) benefit OCRF. In just 3 minutes tarte’s CEO/Founder Maureen Kelly sold over 2,500 be good to your mother (Earth) natural cotton totes and 24.7 lip sheer sets! And that’s just a snapshot of the amazing charitable contributions we made that day!
After everyone hit the cashier stands and collected all of their fabulous buys, the OCRF is proudly reported that Super Saturday 13 raised a total of $3.4 million dollars for the foundation in just 1 day! I’d have to say it’s the best shopping trip I’ve experienced; every penny is well spent and I have zero buyer’s remorse! Good news: Super Saturday isn’t just for socialites and celebs. Anyone can go—so next year be sure to visit OCRF’s website and buy a ticket. We hope to see you there!

Our Picks for Moms…
With Mother’s Day right around the corner, we thought we’d offer some gift suggestions! Aside from giving them tarte’s best-selling beauty items (check out some of their faves), we’ve also spoiled them with lots of other goodies over the years. From fashion to electronics, here’s a few that are sure to be a hit:
- For the busy mom: Pamper her with a manicure/pedicure/massage at her local spa.
- For the avid reader: Snag a Kindle and load it up with her favorite authors.
- For the fashionista: Pick up the latest clutch or tote (some of our preferred eco-chic designers: matt & nat and Stella McCartney)

One-of-a-kind Beauty!
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!! On this “green” holiday, we wanted to celebrate some rare beauties: Redheads! Did you know that only 4% of the population consists of true redheads? Whether strawberry or deep auburn, you’re quite a unique bunch. Red hair genes are often associated with creamy skin and freckles. We realize just because your locks are red that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re Irish, but for those that are—today, let’s embrace it! Hair color, like eye color, has an impact on what makeup shades work best for you. This morning I consulted with tarte’s CEO Maureen Kelly (a true, fiery-redheaded beauty) & our tarte beauty gurus for some tips.
- Complexion- If you have freckles, don’t try to cover them! Use a foundation to even out your skin tone, not cover up. Trying to mask freckles can often make your skin look dingy. Use a tinted moisturizer like smooth operator for an optimal base and follow up by lightly dusting with park ave princess mineral bronzer to warm up your look.
- Cheeks- Avoid pink bases. Redheads look the best in peaches and corals. Some natural cheek stain suggestions: blissful, eco cheek, green siren or Maureen’s favorite, tipsy.
- Eyes- Keep your ‘Irish eyes smiling’ with warm colors in coppers, browns, honeys and bronzes. Grays and blues are not for you. If you want a pop of color khaki’s and plums are the perfect shade for lining.
- Lips- Reach for lippies in coral or blush shades with gold undertones. Our faves for your pout are LipSurgence ™ natural lip stains in joy and enchanted and/or vitamin infused glosses in liquid sunshine & 40 winks—totally kissable!
