fall movie preview

Fall is coming tartelettes! That means sweaters and scarves, the return of all things pumpkin flavored, cool temperatures and a full roster of scary movies to gear us up for Halloween. What better excuse to cuddle up to your guy than a movie jam-packed with creaky doors and eerie shadows?

Not a fan of fright flicks? James Bond returns in November and there’s a host of comedies premiering this fall, too. Just make sure to apply your lights, camera, splashes!™ mascara to guard against runs when you start laughing so hard you cry.

the (fashion) perks of being a wallflower…

Emma Watson is simply adorable as Sam in the new movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Not only does she truly shine in her portrayal of the restless high school senior, but she absolutely nails the look.  From the haircut to the shoes, she mixes angsty  with stylish flair and gives us a little insight to this season’s fall fashion trends. style envy: Rachel McAdams

With The Vow coming out this Friday, we’re excited for the chance to revisit a super-talented (and stylish) actress: Rachel McAdams. We’ve been fans of McAdams since she sauntered down the halls of North Shore High School as leader of the Plastics, then turned around and won our hearts as one-half of a star-crossed couple in the Notebook. Since then, she’s proven time and again that she can play the bad girl, the young ingénue, a fearless heroine, and everything in between.

Regardless of the character she’s playing, McAdams’ red-carpet style is always enviable. This girl is a fan of sleek glamour, but she’s also not afraid to take a little risk, whether it’s with her hair color (remember those pink streaks?) or a daring silhouette. We’ve chosen some of our favorite McAdams’ looks, from both on the screen and off.

For her break-out role as the despicable Regina George, McAdams rocked an array of miniskirts and a spectrum of pink.

As heiress Allie in the classic tear-jerker The Notebook, she got to sport the best of forties’ and fifties’ fashion: gorgeous suits and dresses, and some fabulous hats.

Although Midnight in Paris’s Inez plays the cynical foil to the charmingly naïve Gil, we have to admit that her clothes are great. As we’ve gushed about before, we loved the effortless, Euro-chic wardrobe.

And now, the red-carpet highlights, from pink hair at a Wedding Crashers premiere (has anyone else made neon highlights look so adorable?) to a sequined bustier and linen pants on the red carpet this year.

style envy: Elizabeth Banks

With the return of 30 Rock tonight, we’re most excited to see our favorite funny girl again. Not Tina Fey or Jane Krakowski – though we love them too – but the only woman who can truly steal a scene from Alec Baldwin: Elizabeth Banks. We’ve been fans of Elizabeth since her campy debut in Wet Hot American Summer, when she showed us that she wasn’t afraid to be silly (or sloppy – remember that make out scene with Paul Rudd?) With roles in everything from the 40 Year Old Virgin to Spider Man, she’s proved herself a versatile and ever-hilarious actress – and she’s equally dynamic on the red carpet.

This girl isn’t afraid of making a statement with stunning colors or unique silhouettes. Whether in a drop-dead-gorgeous chiffon Versace or a cut-out, modern take on the flapper dress, Elizabeth always stands out in the usual sea of safe, neutral-toned shifts (usually doing so with a bright smile and a dirty joke.)

By pairing her fashion-forward choices with simple, pretty hair and makeup, she also avoids looking too over-the-top. And with the fabulous Effie Trinket as Elizabeth’s latest character inspiration, we can’t wait to see what she’ll rock on the Hunger Games tour.

Get her look: To recreate her flawlessly glowing skin, try our smooth operator™ Amazonian clay illuminating serum and shimmering powder, then top off with a swipe of gifted Amazonian clay smart mascara.

5 Star Summer Features

With so many great movies at the Box Office this summer, there’s no reason for boredom! Our list of comedies includes

  • “Bad Teacher”
  • “The Hangover Part II”
  • And the ladies’ choice of date night: “Bridesmaids.”

The roster for romantic films isn’t too shabby either featuring films like “The art of getting by,” starring Emma Roberts and the highly-acclaimed film “Water for Elephants,” starring Reese Witherspoon and the heart-melting Robert Pattinson.

That said “Bridesmaids” was my number one priority for summer movies! It was so funny! Literally, when I wasn’t face deep in popcorn and Nestlé Raisinets! ®, I was hysterically laughing! It was a miracle (thank you tarte) that I didn’t leave the theatre with mascara all down my face.

What’s your must-see, summer movie list?

Movie Recommendation

08/20/07

~I went to see Superbad this weekend (along with half of the population of NYC) and loved it! I was a little nervous that it would be like Knocked Up – you know – kind of funny but nothing to write home about. Well, it was more like 40 Year Old Virgin! I can’t wait until it comes out on DVD so I can constantly quote lines with everyone at work! -heather

Back to the Future

07/11/07
~Well, it’s been an exhausting couple of weeks for sure! I’m so happy to be home for a few days (even if home isn’t so relaxing these days because it involves a lot of moving-in chores…blagh). Anyway, at times like these when my brain is so overloaded it’s about to explode, there’s nothing that makes me happier than one of my old standby movies (it’s like comfort food for your brain!). Back to the Future was on the other night and I just got riveted for the full 2 hours, even though I’ve seen it a million times. Is it not one of the best movies of all time? -alexis

4th of July Celebration

07/05/07
~Last night I went to the city version of a 4th of July BBQ. That means burgers and hot dogs on the George Forman and watching fireworks on the TV! Well, we would have walked to the river if it wasn’t raining… Before dinner, we tried to play Trivial Pursuit but it was the Genius Edition and no one could answer any of the questions so we ended up playing Charades. It was actually really fun! We limited the categories to Movies, TV Shows and Bands and I was pretty good! I wish someone could see me acting out Groundhog Day – that was a sight not to be missed – hahaha! -heather
