girl crush: Allison Williams
The new show Girls has caught the fascination of men and women of all ages since it premiered this spring. This blogger, personally, is a fan – I love the realness of the girls’ relationships, both with their male counterparts and each other.
One of the best parts of watching the show has been discovering up-and-comer Allison Williams. Yes, she’s the daughter of newsman Brian Williams, but she’s turning out to be a star in her own right. She’s a multi-talented actress (did you see her hilarious turn as Kate Middleton on Funny or Die?) – and she’s got killer style.
Whether in a stunning hot pink gown or an amazing pair of sparkly trousers, Williams has consistently wow’ed us so far. (That amazing head of hair doesn’t hurt.) We’re looking forward to seeing what she does next!

in 2012 we resolve to…
Is 2012 really only a few days away?
It seems like this new year really snuck up on us, so we decided to take a few minutes and make some resolutions.
From eating right, to putting a moratorium on Diet Coke, each one of us has a goal for the next year — maybe seeing them in print will help us achieve them!
“I resolve to live every minute like it’s my last and STOP sweating the small stuff!”
-Maureen Kelly, tarte Founder and CEO
“My resolution is to seriously dial down my daily coffee intake. I could never forego my morning cup, but whenever I feel like I need an energy boost, I’m going to take a brisk walk around the block!”
-Heather, Controller
“I’m hoping to travel more in the New Year! There are just so many places to see!”
-Candace, Director of Communications & Market Strategy
“As recently advised by a friendly source, my New Year’s resolution is to take a breather and be more patient.”
-Heather, Executive Director, Product Development
“I resolve to exercise more. There’s nothing like the energy from a morning workout…so I’ll be setting my alarm clock and hitting the gym!”
-Staci, Integrated Marketing & E-Commerce Specialist
“Next year I’m going to revamp my diet…less Skittles, more veggies.”
-Jess, Public Relations & Artistry Relations Manager
“I resolve to pay more attention to my budget this year, like painting my nails instead of getting manis!”
-Kate, Public Relations Coordinator
“As a coffee junkie, I resolve to make it myself rather than having a barista do it for me!”
-Amanda, Project Manager
“My resolution this year is to drink more water and get back in shape. I’m determined to be able to do a 5K in under 25 minutes again!”
-Bianca, Graphic Designer
“To stop worrying about the small stuff — and to recognize what is small!”
-Celeste, Retail Operations Associate
“My resolution is to finish decorating my apartment. I moved in August — there’s no excuse for going seven months without a couch!”
-Rachel, Operations Coordinator
“To drink more water…instead of Diet Coke.”
-Kim, Accounting Analyst
“My New Year’s resolution is to actually use the kickboxing gym membership I bought months ago.”
-Melanie, Product Development Coordinator
“I resolve to cook at least one meal each week. I have a kitchen in my apartment — it’s about time I used it!”
-Koryn, Community Manager
“Travel more! Get out – see the world.”
-Jen, Customer Service Representative & Contributing tarte talk Editor
“My resolution is to make sure I’m hitting the gym at least twice a week. Getting my cardio in is such a great stress reliever and helps to keep me on point for the rest of the week.”

Jen’s Pick: The Kind Life
Sure, Alicia Silverstone broke into the Hollywood A-list playing a ditzy, spoiled teen in 1995’s box office hit Clueless, but her most important role has been as an advocate for environment protection and healthy living.
And while the 2009 release of her book The Kind Diet ultimately cemented Alicia’s leadership in both the healthy living and animal cruelty movements, nothing speaks to her commitment to these causes more than her amazing blog called The Kind Life. The blog offers tips and advice on ways to live greener, healthier and cruelty-free lives.
I personally love The Kind Life. It has an amazing following with a ton of interaction. Alicia does a lot of research on the topics she discusses and posts photos featuring people’s success stories in changing their lives and living green. After looking over the blog, I went straight to Amazon and purchased her book. As you know, green living is very important to me and I jump at any opportunity to incorporate new tips or advice into my daily life.
This is my shout out to Alicia Silverstone, a true Green Queen!

natural beauties
At tarte™ we’re inspired by the everyday woman—teachers, lawyers, fashionistas, new moms, working moms, grandmas (or as our Executive Director of Sales & Education likes to say: glam-mas) and our list goes on! We love learning about this woman and enhancing her natural beauty with good for you glamour. To us it’s important that we celebrate these natural beauties year-round. So we hit the streets of NYC, stopping real women at random and convincing them to dish their makeup secrets.
name: Niyati
day to day: Non-profit administrator
beauty philosophy: Naturally unnatural
by the numbers: An average of 10 minutes to apply four products daily.
must-have product: “Eyeliner, I look dead without it!”
first makeup purchase ever: “When I was 12 I was really into blue eye shadow. That was a really bad idea, but I soon gave it up.”
must-know tip: “I stand by the “don’t wash your hair every day” rule. When you wash too often, your hair dries out. Dirty hair is softer and looks healthier.”
Let us know what you think of our new, weekly blog series: natural beauties. Maybe you’ll be our next natural beauty!

A tartelette visits FashionCampNYC
Yesterday, I had the honor of presenting to a really fantastic group of young ladies at FashionCampNYC. To give you some more insight on the program, it’s a five-day camp experience, where experts, designers, product developers, stylists, bloggers, editors, publicists (me!), retailers and other fashion & beauty professionals educate budding teens between the ages 12 to 18. The program explores the “business” of fashion and beauty, teaching teens how to turn their passion into a lucrative profession.
During my session, I explained the role of PR in the beauty industry. As part of my presentation, I offered background on tarte and then explained my PR position with the help of some props! I distributed magazines (i.e. Seventeen) where tarte was featured and discussed some of our coveted beauty awards. I also explained the importance of a press kit, which includes a bio about the company, celebrity fans and other informative information. These young ladies are really a passionate group—I hope I taught them a thing or two (i.e. listen up in your English and writing classes)! I’m really so excited about these future industry professionals. We’re in good hands!
I can’t wait to do it all over again on 8/2—it felt good to pay it forward. How are you giving back to the community?
xo,
Candace
