tartelettes, have we got spring fever. In these last long days of winter, all we’re craving is pretty pastels, floaty dresses, and any excuse to bust out our new shades.
Fortunately, your faithful fashion blogger has managed to escape to warmer climes. It’s spring break, baby!
However, with just one unforgiving, carry-on size suitcase to fit all this fun spring fashion, packing was admittedly a bit of a challenge. After hours of agonizing in front of my closet, I decided to go with what always works best: just a few simple items of clothing, topped off with versatile springtime accessories. Here are a few of my favorite travel-friendly go-to’s.
The perfect LWD (little white dress) – like this one from California-based, eco-friendly line Kelly B Couture that’s made of 98% natural fibers. Wear it over your bikini, or dress it up with heels and a long statement necklace for going out.
A fabulous swimsuit; Trina Turk’s amazing prints and bold colors are a match for any water-side vacation.
A gorgeous silk scarf – like this one from ASOS – is the perfect springtime accessory. Toss it around your neck to glam up a casual outfit, tie it around your bag to brighten things up, or wrap it around your head for a chic answer to uncooperative hair.
Of course, bright (faux) leather sandals are a must. Our pre-trip ritual is to go pick up an assortment of colors at Forever 21.
A great pair of sunglasses. We just recently discovered the new line from TOMS, one of our favorite charitable accessories brands. For each pair you buy, the company will give sight to one person in need. Now, that’s fashion you can feel really good about.
Don’t forget to top off any outfit with some really good sunscreen. (We like all-natural Badger Balm). Nothing complements your clothes like healthy, glowing skin!
What are you planning for spring break, and what are you packing?
The holidays are over but winter has barely kicked in. If you’re braving the skies — or highways or train tracks — over the next couple months, make sure you pack for comfort. It’s no fun spending 6 hours crammed in the backseat of a two-door with nothing to do, and let’s face it, there are very few things worse than suffering through wet socks on a red-eye flight.
While comfort is important, you should never sacrifice style — so we’ve rounded up the perfect travel checklist for the cold weather jet setter.
Clockwise from the top left: Serious baggage: Flight 001 luggage tags, $18. Snuggle up: Minnie Rose cashmere shawl, $395. The best-seller: The Help, $11. Sweet escape: a new playlist and Zumreed striped blue headphones, $55. Small luxuries: Hunter ‘Fleece Welly’ socks, $30. Anywhere comfort: In-flight sleep masks and neck pillow, $22 and $18. Quick refreshers: Ole Hendrickson Truth To Go wipes, $6. Pretty quencher: LipSurgence lip tints, $24. A hold-everything bag: Duex Lux Felix medium duffle, $102.
So, remember a couple of months ago I casually mentioned that maybe I would book a trip to Italy that day? Well I did, and now it’s finally HERE, and Phil and I are leaving tonight for 10 days in Venice & Florence! We’ll be in Venice for Valentine’s Day, which is like a double treat. I am beyond excited to show him around Florence and basically eat everything that crosses my path. The timing couldn’t be better…the weather is just starting to get pretty blah and the winter doldrums have officially set in, so I really can’t wait to go someplace that inspires me and get reinvigorated. And when we get home, hopefully spring will be (sort of) on the horizon. Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! -Alexis
I just got back from Mexico for my brother-in-law’s wedding (congrats Vin & Jess!), which was SO much fun, even though it kinda threw me out of the holiday season. (On the way home, I had to listen to Christmas songs on my iPod to get myself back in the mood and prepare for the impending cold.) But what is it about taking one vacation that makes you immediately need to plan another? While we were drinking mojitos poolside, we got in a huge conversation about going to Italy in February…now I’m ready to book it today. And I might actually do it. -Alexis
I just confirmed my holiday trip this year and am so excited I can not sit still! My boyfriend and I are traveling to New Zealand and Australia for an amazing tour of the best beaches and surf spots. I learned to surf this summer from my uncle and my cousins on the Oregon coast and now want to take on bigger and better waves. I asked Santa for a custom longboard this year, so we’ll see if he thinks I’ve been naughty or nice! -Heather R
