the best-dressed “Best Actress” nominees

The Oscars! They’re almost here… can you tell we’re excited?

And our favorite category, Best Actress in a Leading Role, couldn’t be filled with some more stylishly diverse women.

First up, we have Glenn Close – a star who’s been reigning over Hollywood since the eighties. We’re happy to see her in the nominees circle for her gender-bending turn in Albert Nobbs. Glenn embodies simple, age-appropriate elegance, and she usually appears on the red carpet in variations on black evening gowns. In her everyday, she tends towards similarly classic staples, such as great-fitting jeans, blazers, and heels.

Another Hollywood queen, Meryl Streep, is in the running for The Iron Lady. With thirty years since her last Oscar win (but 17 nominations to her name), will this be the year that Streep gets a statue? Regardless of the win, we’re sure she’ll be sporting something in a neutral color, probably long and with sleeves, as she is wont to do on the red carpet. Meryl inevitably spices up her conservative outfits with funky accessories and some serious décolletage – fashion critics be damned. We love her spunk!

Viola Davis, whose eco-friendly gown at the BAFTAs left us drooling, is nominated for her role in blockbuster The Help. We expect the stunning actress to appear in a fun color (a welcome relief amongst all those neutrals!) and a curve-hugging silhouette.

Michelle Williams has been captivating us with her hip Brooklyn aesthetic for years now. Her style couldn’t be further from that of Marilyn Monroe, but we love her endearing mix of hipster, lady-like, and vintage elements. And, man – the girl looks good in a fedora.

Rooney Mara, this group’s newcomer, brings an avant garde edge to the others’ relatively mainstream style. Not unlike her character in Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Rooney generally sports a darker look, with a focus on minimalist silhouettes with razor-sharp lines.

best-dressed at BAFTA

Many beautiful gowns walked down the red carpet at the BAFTA awards last night. As we’ve seen throughout the rest of awards season, neutrals, metallics, and classic black were predominant. But, while we think everyone looked beautiful, only a few gowns stood out and made us go, “Wow” – including one bold, eco-friendly number that left us drooling. Here are our picks for the best-dressed women at the BAFTA awards.

Kristen Wiig, one of our favorite funny girls, looked like an Old Hollywood bombshell in this satin Alberta Ferretti.

Rising starlet Jessica Chastain wowed us again in this pleated, twisted, goddess-like dress that seemed to be spun from liquid gold.

Continuing the metallic trend, Christina Ricci floated down the red carpet in this slinky Givenchy.

Young Shailene Woodley looked decidedly grown-up and glamorous in an ethereal Dolce & Gabbana.

But our top pick of the night has to go to Viola Davis, who looked completely stunning in this salmon one-shouldered gown. Not only are the color and draping spot-on, but here’s the kicker: the dress was made entirely from recycled water bottles, by Valentino in collaboration with the Green Carpet Challenge.  What a gorgeous tribute to eco-friendly fashion!

best-dressed at the 2012 SAG Awards

The Help and Modern Family were big winners at last night’s SAG awards. And while screen veterans Jessica Lange, Betty White and Alec Baldwin also snagged tops honors, we have to nod our heads to the following women for winning over the red carpet with style and grace.

Dianna Agron looked flawless in this pink number topped off with just the right amount of ruffle and a chic bohemian hairstyle.

Ashlee Simpson took us by surprise when she stepped out onto the red carpet last night. Looking fabulous from head to toe, she proved she’s a fashion force to reckon with.

Oh, hello Emily Blunt! It’s not enough that you have an awesome British accent, but you also have an amazing figure that looks good in any style. Green can be a risky red carpet shade, but Emily really rocked it out!

Emma Stone why are you so adorable? This beauty can do no wrong! Yes, her hair color changes, but her distinct eye for fashion does not.

Kaley Cuoco looked like a princess last night. Her hair was fairy tale perfect and her dress was straight out of a story book. Congrats to her for recently getting engaged to her prince charming.

Lea Michele has made some bold fashion choices this award season, and she continues to show us she’s not afraid to stand out with this show stopping number.

It seems Naya Rivera can do no wrong when dressing for the red carpet. On top of being blessed with exotic features, she always chooses designs that compliment her body shape.

Beautifully strapless with a tousled up do, Viola Davis turned heads with this gorgeous look.

Sofia Vergara was looking muy caliente last night! This magenta silk gown hugged every curve of her body in the most flattering way possible. With her hair was pulled back and wearing just the right amount of diamonds there was no overlooking this style star!

Michelle Williams was definitely my favorite look of the night. This gorgeous red dress looked perfect against her porcelain skin. She looked timeless and sexy without going over the top.
