I really do reach for this 90% of the time. It smooths out my combination skin and I find that my makeup lasts all day long. I love this primer it works great. My makeup stays on and goes over this so smoothly. My one gripe and the reason I purchased a different primer after using this one up twice? The shape of the tube. Both times after getting to a certain point where I've used 3 quarters of the product, it is extremly difficult to squeeze the remaining primer out and I feel like I am missing out on the left over that I just can't get to. I'm not sure if this was a problem for anyone else, but it's a big issue for me. If they change the shape of this tube I will 100% switch back because it is such a great product. This is the first primer I have ever tried and use it before applying my smooth operator tinted moisturizer. I love it! It goes on silky but then is weightless and you don't feel it. I got this in a travel size from a kit that I ordered from QVC. I also got the Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation. I tried the foundation alone and i noticed that it started to look uneven around the oily parts around my nose, so I thought that I would see if the Primer made a difference. It helped a little by keeping it even longer, but by the end of the day my face looked the same as it did without the Primer. Kind of dissappointed. I was expecting more. My skin has never felt such smoothness before! I used to use Sephora's oil free primer, but it felt like my skin texture was exactly the same. With this, there is a smoothness to my skin that I have never felt before. I really enjoy using this product and I love that's it made without harsh additives. It is on the heavy side, though. I really like this primer. I tend to have dry skin in some areas but oily in others, so I generally have a tough time finding a perfect balance with makeup. I use this product over my daily moisturizer. After I apply this I use Smooth Operator tinted moisturizer. It might sound like a lot of layers on my face but it's perfect. I recieved this product in a deluxe size that I ordered in a kit off of QVC. It only takes a pea-sized amout to cover the entire face, which is nice because then you are not constantly paying for more. A real disappointment that I realized with this product is that it makes my foundation dramatically darker, which dosen't work very well with my extremly fair complexion. Though it does help my makeup go on smoother and makes it stay on slightly longer, I will be trying other primers before I resort back to this one. Would you buy this product again? Yes

You would think something called clean slate would be for oily skin. Not the case. This is a primer that made my already oily skin, unbearably oily. Nothing other than washing the face would fix it. I had to wash my face in my work bathroom. I proceeded to use it over the weekend. On Monday my face was so badly broken out that I did not want to leave my house. Yup, that bad. I gave it to my mom. I hate to return things. It just goes in the garbage. If I can find someone I think it will work for, that is what I do. My mom has terribly dry skin. Instead of her makeup sliding off her face, it seems like her face absorbs it all. She loves this primer. It is the first primer she ever really liked. Her face does not absorb it. Her makeup lasts all day. She finally found a primer she loves. My hunt continues. I wish tarte made an oil free silicon free primer. Hint hint...please! I am sure people would buy it. The texture of Clean Slate is actually very similar to the Smashbox Primer - it's a lightweight gel that spreads easily on the face. I was pleasantly surprised because I wasn't sure what to expect. However, the advantage that Clean Slate has over Smashbox, is that it is a natural product that's beneficial for the skin. Also, I noticed that the Tarte primer is exactly the same size as the Smashbox primer (1oz), but the price of Clean Slate is $6 to $12 less. I made the switch to Tarte with no hesitation. I love this primer! It feels clean and smooth gliding on your face, and it enables your foundation to sit perfectly. I use this with Tarte ReCreate (foundation), and it enables you to use less of the foundation than you would without the primer. The foundation also just *feels better with the primer on underneath -- smooth and beautiful.
I have also tried the ReCreate primer, but I prefer the Clean Slate because I found the ReCreate primer too moisturizing for my oily/combination skin. If you tend toward oily skin and you aren't sure about which primer, I would recommend the Clean Slate over the ReCreate.
I also like the packaging slightly better on the Clean Slate than on the ReCreate (no pump mechanism to break!), though it's hard to get every last drop out of the Clean Slate tube -- when it gets too difficult to squeeze out the last couple of days' worth of product, I cut off the top of the Clean Slate tube and scoop out what I can...
While I appreciate Tarte's commitment to eco-friendly packaging, it's hard for me to see how the plastic on this tube is "eco-friendly," and since it's not super-functional anyway, I would recommend an overhaul on this and other products' packaging.
Overall, an excellent primer that I will continue to buy despite the packaging issues! Would you buy this product again? Yes

This primer makes my skin so smooth I can't stop touching it; the tiniest amount goes a long way too. I can't say for sure wether it makes my makeup last longer, but it definitely keeps it looking fresher and prevents it from settling into lines and pores on my skin. I also like to blend it with a very thick foundation I have that dries on my skin too quickly, and it makes it glide on and cover more evenly. Love this primer. I'm on my fourth bottle of it, which is saying something. I generally do not re-purchase many things like this because I'm always looking for something better, usually before I even finish what I have started. But this is amazing. It's smooth and almost silky feeling. I have extremely oily skin and it really controls oil, which helps my makeup stay on better. My only issue with it is, when it's about 3/4th gone it becomes hard to squeeze anything out of it. It's very hard to get the last of it out, but I buy it anyway, just because it works so well. I did discover that if I get my boyfriend to help, he can squeeze the last of it out for me a lot better than I can. Would you buy this product again? Yes
I really really really wanted to love this product because it is vegan and has more natural ingredients compared to other primers, but it didn't really do much for my skin. It applies really well and feels silky and soft on the skin, but for the price I would expect it to help with the longevity of my makeup. I have super oily skin though and this product didn't help much with making my makeup last or mattifying my skin. I can see it working better for people with normal skin who need it to just smooth out their face before applying foundation. Oily skinned girls need something different for mattifying. This stuff is the best. Clean Slate primer gives me the appearance of the skin I've always wanted-poreless, silky, not entirely matte, just enough "dew." A little goes a LONG way, so the price is justifiable, and it works well with mineral makeup. This is my absolute favorite primer I have ever used. I've tried a ton of face primers and the one that seemed to be the most similar to this was the sephora brand one. I checked the label on it and turns out it has tons of parabens in it. I wanted to switch but wanted to find a comparable product. I'm so glad tarte makes this primer =) It works great, when I go to work or school I can even get away with just wearing this primer and a little bit of powder. It's really humid where I live so this primer helps keep my make up from running. I love that it's paraben free as well. Love it! I haven't used primers much in the past but the few I've tried didn't impress me much. I bought a matte foundation and discovered I needed a primer that would cover my pores...a trip to Sephora later and I came home with this primer. It's pretty amazing. Previous Smashbox Primer faithful user, now a convert to this AWESOME SILICONE FREE PRIMER! I didn't think a primer without silicone could work as well, but this stuff is gold and I think I'm IN LOVE! I can already see after just a week that my skin looks clearer because I didn't even realize the effect that my old primer had on me with making my acne worse. I would never ever buy it again, it did not let my skin breath. I did not have acne problems before but, for some reason my skin reacted bad to this primer. I did not know what was creating my acne so I stoped using some products that I normally use. I did not believe that the primer was the product that was causing my acne, but believe me, the days I used the primer my skin felt horrible at night with big pimples and painful seeds. I like the fact that lives the skin smooth and silky plus the foundation looks even and last a little bit longer. The ONLY problem that I had is that my skin hated the product. My sister tried it once, she loved it!! Hopefully it works for you...I'm going to try the silicone free primer. Would you buy this product again? Yes

Definitely wasn't expecting this from Tarte. You get a lot of product, and it's natural ... not only that, but it goes on so smoothly, and makes makeup stay and last. I use it under just a mattifying face powder, and my face stays matte all day long without having to reapply! I've tried it with foundation as well, and with good blending, your skin will look absolutely flawless. Honestly, this is the one product from Tarte I don't really like. I works okay and it goes on feeling silky, but I don't see how it enhances the make-ups staying power through the day. If you put it on your eyes it makes them feel kind of greasy and my shadow runs a little. I've never bought this product by itself. I always get it because it comes in a gift set or combo deal. My only beef with this product is that it has silicon in it which is bad for my combination skin. It does create a flawless base for foundation, but it doesn't let your skin breathe and mine would get super oily after half a day's wear. I use concealer under my eyes and I don't like tugging on the delicate skin in this area. Clean Slate to the rescue. After using this primer my Tarte concealer and tinted mositurizer go on effortlessly. It just glides over my skin, especially under the eyes. Plus my concealer does not into settle into any fine lines. The primer makes my face feel like silk, it dries instantly, and is not greasy. It's the perfect primer! Would you buy this product again? I truly dig this stuff. I bought it for its good skin ingredients. A little goes a long way too. I use about a pearl sized amount, and it covers everything. I also love the way it feels, sounds strange, but its not too runny or too thick. It works wonderfully when it comes to keeping my making up lasting a long time. I am interested in trying their other primer because I've heard great things about it too.

I've tried this product as a sample and I'm ordering the full size to use. I don't like using primer, foundation or too much cake on my face, but this primer actually is very light and makes my oily face don't shine as much in the evening. This is how I was introduced to primers and to tarte. A friend of mine who is a makeup junkie highly recommended trying a primer to help with my smoothing out my skin and helping with fine lines. She also told me it will help my foundations to last longer. And you know what...it does! I believe it has also helped make my skin healthier too. I prefer powder based foundations and this really helps even out their application! And a little goes a long way so you get a lot of bang for the buck here! Would you buy this product again? Yes

I think this primer is really great, it does provide the matte finish desired at first. I apply this on first before using my tarte foundation but after a few hours it gets a little sticky and makes the makeup a little too creamy. Other than that it is great, no acne comes from it, it doesn't irritate at all and it also works well as a moisturizer when your running late. Would you buy this product again? Yes
I love this primer. I don't use one everyday, but when I'm going to use a foundation or such, I always will. This is the bomb. I've tried to collect all the little samples from the Sephora's 500pt perk that people didn't want. Needless to say I have lots of little containers of this primer now, lol. It's a fantastic product that works well. Doesn't take much, just a pearl sized to cover your face. And makes everything go on so much easier and lasts so much longer. How can you not love that? For the longest time, I began to stray away from primers bc I didn't see a big difference, like many claim. When I tried this product for the first time it was with Tarte's Smooth Operator and I immediately fell in love. I have dry/sensitive skin and with the combination of these two products my skin has felt so much better than what I was using. I was afraid switching from a non-primer, mineral powder routine would quickly start to show all over my face, with breakouts and what not...but boy was I wrong. My face has never felt & looked better! Would you buy this product again? Yes

This is my absolute favorite primer. It makes my face feel so smooth and has amazing staying power. I wear less foundation (or tinted moisturizer, whichever I'm in the mood for) with this stuff because it spreads the product out so well. It makes my face feel really good, unlike other primers that can make me feel oily, plus it's all natural (or mostly all natural). The price is a little steep but a little of this product goes a long way. I've used mine every day and have had it for many months. I am just now halfway with it. Plus if you don't like the price tag, Tartecosmetics.com always has amazing sales so you can get it for less! I am yet to try a primer that I like better than Clean Slate, and I've tried at least four others. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I love this stuff. It really helps my foundation go on smooth. I also like to use it on my eyelids with powder, it really helps my eye makeup stay on. Also helps minimize the shine on my nose and chin. Would you buy this product again? Yes
