I got lucky in my birchbox and i love it. Sometimes its too matte though but i just fix that with a little carmex over the top. The color is lighter than my natural lip color but doesnt look fake because of my fair skin. I'm going to try a regular glossy one next.
The smell is ok and it doesnt feel moisturizing like they make it sound, but thats probably just these matte ones. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I have olive skin tone and all these shades look fantastic on me. I am CONSTANTLY getting compliments on my lip color, especially the Lively, hot pink one (from both women and men). And let me tell you, am not crazy about pink, but this one is my favorite. The color stays on all day, I may have to touch it up a bit after 6 hours, but if I didn't, the color still looks good. I also wanted to mention the yummy mint taste it has. It freshens your breath when you least expect it. These are MUST have items. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I just bought this in 'exposed' yesterday, and i'm already obsessed with it! amazing fact number one is that although it is a matte lupcolor, it is extremely creamy and moisturizing. just like the other tarte lipsurgence tints, it has a peppermint scent and cooling feel, so it definitely feelsmore Luke a lip balm than a lip color. these matte tints have quite a bit more pigment than the regular and luster versions of these pencils, so if you want a more dramatic look, someof these shades would be fantastic. the exposed is the PERFECT "my lips, only better" shade. this is going to be my daily lip from now on. so perfect. Ive always loved Tarte for its excellent quality and for being cruelty free, i never tried the lip tints before and i just got this inside my March Birchbox on the shade "lucky" and I was so excited!! I absolutely love it!
My skin tone is extremely light and my lips always look pale and this is a very natural color that I can use everyday as it's appropriate for day and night makeup, it lasted a long time and although I haven't used it enough to see any improvement on my lips as the product claims it gradually moisturizers them and you should see results after 28 days, I do feel it has a very light consistency and it goes on smoothly without drying out my lips like many other tints I have tried, I am definitely buying every shade! The Only reason why I gave it 4 stars it's because there is a minty taste to it and a tingly sensation that I didn't appreciate it, but hey I can live with that! Would you buy this product again? Yes

I have this in Fiery. I LOVE the pigment. This is the only red I can wear. I also like that it's matte and not shiny. The only issue I have is that it dries my lips out after a while. I apply it over some chap stick or vaseline when I first put it on but later it starts flaking off. I have to have very exfoliated lips for it to look nice. I have this in Exposed and Envy, and OMG, I LOVE this product. Especially Exposed; it's just absolutely perfect on my lips. Very similar to my natural lip color but slightly darker. Envy is a bit pinker/more fuschia than I had hoped, and slightly dark for my pale skin, I think. Looks very unnatural and kind of glaring. But Exposed is wonderful. And both colors are easy to apply, have good staying power, taste great (minty fresh!), and are not overly drying. And VEGAN!!!! Great product, highly recommended. Would you buy this product again? If you want the rhianna/niki minaj matte pink lip look. THIS IS THE COLOR! I recommend this. For their look apply a lip balm to smooth the ridges. then apply a concealer, i like the smooth operator from tarte. The concealer helps neutralize your lips and really helps make the pink POP! then apply the lucky pink color! I put a lil shimmer on top with Glisten as well!

So, 'Lucky' was the first one of these I bought over a year ago. I used it and hated how it looked. I didn't try another LipSurgence until I decided to try the 2011 Holiday collection and loved them all, so I went back to these matte colors to reevaluate. I tried 'Fiery' on at Ulta and OH MY does it look fantastic on me. I was completely sold, only they were sold out and currently so is tarte.com. Thankfully I was able to get one off Amazon! I HAD TO HAVE IT! Oh as it turns out, when I tried 'Lucky' it was summer and my skin was darker, I've tried it again in the winter when my skin is fair and it looks great! Overall I'm really impressed with the staying power of this product. The pigment is outstanding and its very moisturizing. I don't think I'll stop buying these until I have them all. Of the 3 lip tint options this one is my ultimate favorite. My husband loves these too because he feels the matte-ness really keeps my look natural. They don't feel quite as moist as the regular lip tint but that's to be expected from a matte product. All I have to say is WOW...I did not expect this product to be that great. But I am so glad I bought it!!! I bought it in the color Hope and I love it!! It gives my lips a light color, but my lips still have a natural look to them. It is a little drying, but using my favorite lipbalm first keeps my lips from drying out. And the color lasted a surprisingly long time!! I couldn't believe that after a half day at work I still had a lot of color left on my lips! Wow! I literally just rec'd Exposed in the mail and applied it with Peaceful (Natural Lip Tint) on top. I bought these two pieces after I saw it recommended under the Video tab. They demonstrated how to create the perfect nude lip....and IT IS! I am suprised at the color I achieved, as my natural lip color is sort of a plum/light brown shade. The two colors gave me a nude shade perfect for my complexion without looking chalky. It appears fleshy pink/brown.

This lip tint is fantastic!! it is moisturising and the colors are beautiful. I own envy, dollface and exposed is on its way. I want them all! i wear them all the time and I keep them in my bag and take them everywhere so I can re apply them whenever I need to. They weren't kidding when they said long-lasting. I swactched it on my hand in Sephora in the morning and went shopping for the rest of the day, and it was still there when I took a shower at night. The colour was great, so I went ahead and got one and I absolutely love it. It's a little drying and very minty, but I wore it with Burt's Bees lip balm on top and I didn't have any issues. Definitely worth the price, especially considering how I'd have to reapply my lip colour every few hours before and only put this on once every day. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I don't like lip glosses. The idea of shiny lips seems almost childish to me, and so I try to avoid lipsticks and lipstains that have shine added to them. Tarte's line of matte lipstains are perfect. I own Hope, which appears as a cool pink on my warmer-toned lips, and Fiery, which appears on my skin as a blue red. Because I am fairly yellow, I thought that the colors would contrast too much to my base color, but the opposite is actually true! The colors are beautiful!
Unfortunately, they are rather drying. In order to wear these, I have to prep the night before by exfoliating my lips thoroughly, and the day after I wear this product, my lips are terribly chapped. Perhaps part of the problem is the delicious mint taste? I tend to lick my lips a lot while wearing this. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I bought the Lively (hot pink) one--beware! It's very pigmented--you don't need a lot of product! I wore it with clear gloss to a beach wedding. I ate food and cake, threw back champagne and it was still there. I had to re-apply the gloss but not the color.
I also layered it under red lipstick for another wedding. I was paranoid that it would bleed but every time I checked, it was totally in place. Uncanny!
I haven't worn it alone but I think that's because the shade I chose is pretty extreme. It's not a color I would wear everyday but I do want to go back to Sephora and try the nude/pink shades.
I would liken the feel of this to a gel primer--it just seems to fill in all the cracks and gives you a really smooth and even finish. It's creamy and soft--doesn't feel like you have a lot of gook on your lips. It actually feels like you don't have anything on because it's not sticky or even slick like a chapstick. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I love a matte lip look. These pencils are very light and for a long time it feels like you're wearing nothing at all. The formula is long lasting and I don't have to re-apply as often as the other lipsurgence pencils. I have Fiery and Envy and they are both very pretty. I hope they expand the line to more colors. The only issue I really have is that my lips do feel dry by the end of the day. This really isn't any worse than other matte lipsticks and pencils though. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I bought the fiery red matte lip surgence because I love the lip surgence line so much. The matte version of this product is very dry and drying to the lips and hard to apply. I have this in the shade lively-hot pink and it is a great lip stain! It is not like others and dry out your lips, in fact it moisterizes them and stains them! The color is also very pigmented- you do not need to use to much product to go over lips. The color stays on all day, suprisingly. Ever since I became vegan, I have been looking for a good lipstain. After doing some research, I decided to try this one. I ordered it in "fiery." I LOVE the color and the matte effect; however, it didn't really stain my lips. It wore off pretty easily if I touched it. I have this in envy. I love it. It is the perfect color for my lips. They look very natural. Remember to exfoliate before wearing this product if you have dry lips.
The only problem I have is that it doesn't stay that long on my lips. I'm talking about an hour at most, so I have to constantly reply. I think it is because I tend to lick my lips a lot.

I had been thinking about buying it for a while and then finally just got it. BEST DECISION EVER! Even when the color starts to wear off, I just swipe on some lip balm, and the color is renewed! My first matte lip tint is Envy. I LOVE it. I can't believe how great it looks and feels...FEELS is the key. You just can't stop rubbing your lips together. Super moisturizing. I do wish it was a little more long lasting. I find myself having to reapply it more frequently then I wish I had to. That being said, the feeling of the lip color and the lip color itself makes it amazing. I find the lid really difficult to take off, but I would rather that then it flying off all the time. I got this in Envy and LOVE LOVE LOVE the color. It goes great with my medium skin, brunette hair and blue eyes. It is not drying at all. It has great staying power although it doesn't quite stain......which I happen to like. The only reason I took off a star is because of the cap being very difficult to come off, like a lot have mentioned. I had to take off the bottom, which broke the crayon and stick a pen through to push off the cap. It put back together and I can still use it but I will be very careful with putting the lid on not so tight in the future. I don't seem to have this problem with my lip luster one or the true blood one. Would you buy this product again? Yes

Extremely disappointed in this product. Love tarte but this was a fail for me. I'm not a fan of really glossy lips which is why I choose the matte lip tint. It claimed to be moisturing which was exactly what I was looking for. I love the look of matte lips but formula is usually very drying. this product is no different. I've tried it several ways.. putting lipbalm on before, using in the morning after an overnight lip treatment. trying it w/different lip balms.. trying lip balm over it (which defeats the "matte" purpose.. none of these ways wears well. It dries out my lips and when worn with the lip balm it's patchy and comes off in little flakes. The price tag is extremely steep for this product. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I love it! I have both exposed and lively. I love that this is build-able, if you want more color just keep applying. It lasts for a fair amount of time if your not eating and drinking. It also leaves a nice tint on your lips at the end of the day. it is moisturizing, however, you must exfoliate your lips before putting this on especially in the colder months. the fact that these are matte and hydrating is amazing. i love that i do not have to put lip balm on underneath to keep my lips from drying out. they are super pigmented and have the best staying power. i only touch up after i eat. i also love putting clear gloss over it to get a different look.

I love the texture, the ease of application, and the great peppermint smell. I have every color except the fiery red, which will probably be my next purchase. Unfortunately, my lips have a lot of color in them, so the lighter colors like Exposed and Lucky don't work for me. These lip tints are just that, translucent rather than opaque. I still recommend them! When I apply to my lips, I use the side, and not the point. I only use the point when I want to fix the edges of my application. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I got this in the shade Fiery. Its a dark red colour that is, of course, matte. It goes on smooth for a matte shade, and it has a refreshing minty feeling on your lips. it lasts pretty long on me, and it would last longer, but i have a bad habit of rubbing my lips together whenever im wearing something on my lips. Its not really the products fault, but like any other lipstick it leaves kindof a line around the inside of my mouth. its not the products fault, but yeah. I expected it to actually be a lip stain. as in i expected it to stain my lips red, and not actually feel like i was wearing a red lipstick. its really not what i expected, so i took off one star for the fact that it didnt actually stain my lips. I got this matte lip tint in "Lively" and loved it -- it's a really fun, bright pink that has pretty good staying power, but also fades beautifully throughout the day. It doesn't dry out your lips like some other lip stains, and is something that I feel comfortable wearing when eating/drinking (unlike stains from other brands that are typically loaded with chemicals). I bought fiery (red). I have pale skin so it's really difficult to find red lipstick that doesn't look too harsh. This is the perfect solution - I am able to layer it easily to increase the opacity and it matches my skin tone perfectly. In the winter, I do have to apply extra chapstick underneath so that my lips aren't too dry. It looks great for a long time and still looks good as it's wearing off! Would you buy this product again? To this day, this is the only matte lip product that doesn't over dry and doesn't emphasize the cracks on my lips! I also feel like it has a slight plumping effect without tingling my lips to death (you know exactly that feeling)!
The lasting power of these are strong and they don't have a taste. These smell like peppermint, it is very soft (I hate mint), so it doesn't bother me. I like the simplistic, yet very feminine design in the package. It is also so easy and secure to carry it in your purse; you know that cap is lot going to come off and make a mess.
I own exposed (one of my favorites) that is exactly the color of my lips. My boyfriend was confused, he couldn't tell I had any color, but he did say that my lips looked much smoother than he has ever seen! Which is awesome.
Envy has tiny little dots, that are rather exfoliating. It is a great dark mauve color, great for rainy days and winter. It is very universal, but would possibly look it's best in darker skin tones.
Hope and Lively are my latest acquisitions. Hope is that warmer pink, universal shade that adds a tint of color and goes well in any occasion. Lively is a cool hot pink. It is really bright and makes your lips look much fuller! Great for a night out!
This is certainly a 5 star product and I will be purchasing extra shades, especially Exposed, since it is almost gone. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I love these. This is the very first matte lip product I have ever used that is moisturizing. I love how my lips feel while I am wearing this and at the end of the day. It does need to be reapplied often, but I like how it feels so much that I want to do that anyway. I am very fair, wear the fairest tarte shade in foundation, with naturally pink lips. I bought this one in envy and the description of the color is spot on. I will buy this color again when I am out, until then maybe a new color! They are sheer while being matte so I think they are very forgiving, but at the same time can be layered for more color saturation. I know I am saying this again, but I seriously love these! I have this lip tint in Envy. While it does feel very dry on my lips, I kind of like it. It stays on a lot longer than the other formulas, and it feels very light on my lips. Envy is a tad dark on me (I am very fair and usually don't use a lot of color on my lips), but the color is very pretty and flattering. Because it is matte, the darkness of the color isn't bad. I can easily wear it to work. Overall, I really like this product, and I would like to try it in Lucky. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I usually prefer sheer, lightly colored lipgloss over any type of lip color. However I tried "Exposed" at Sephora and it was not overpowering. I love the color so I purchased it. It is great to wear during the day or night. I decided to get a little bold so I also purchased "Envy." It is a rich, warm color that my friends LOVED on me... AND it looks WONDERFUL on everyone - try it!
However, these matte lip tints are INCREDIBLY drying. After a short while I feel like I have dry clay on my lips. I wind up applying chapstick or lipgloss and then my lips just feel "cakey" and parched. These do not really hold ANY moisture at all. I am going to try another version of the lip tints and hopefully they feel better. But I would not purchase the matte lip tints again. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I bought this in Exposed, as I figured the nude-ish color would look more natural in the matte finish. It does, but I find the formula to be incredibly drying (The whole extra moisture thing it's supposed to do is really a crock when it comes to the matte stains). I haven't tried in other colors just yet for fear of them being similarly drying, but Exposed is truly a beautiful color. It gives my lips such a nice, natural appearance. I find that if I wear a primer and exfoliate a little before application, then apply a little balm on top that makes me it more comfortable, but placing a gloss on top kind of defeats the purpose of a matte lip stain. I like it, but I'm not totally sold on it until I can come up with a "comfortable" way of wearing it. Would you buy this product again? Yes

Very color intense, so you don't need much product to get a bold color. Doesn't last more than a couple of hours for me, not a true stain in my eyes. Also, the top can be tough to get off if it is pushed down completely, and in all the recent pulling to try to get it off, the crayon has finally broken and fallen out. Bought this in hope. It was more pink than I had expected. Still a great color. Gets darker the more you layer. My lips were really dry when I first tried it, which didn't go too well. I had to re-apply a couple times or else I'd have just a line around my lips. It also has sparkles in it. I wasn't too thrilled about that because it was really noticeable in the sun. I'm going to keep using this in *hopes* that it brings more moisture to my lips. All in all, I like this lip stain and will continue to use it. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I got a set of three of these on QVC. I should have gotten the shimmer. These are great with a base lip product (cover FX makes a great minty gloss primer). The matte is great with a very light coat, but the moisturizing effect doesn't last long and when you reapply the color gets VERY dark. Not very good for a full day at work. If you like matte, get these, but I think the shimmers are better. My favorite part is the package design and product design. Who doesn't like a big crayon? Would you buy this product again? Yes

I bought the shade Exposed! I was looking for a nude lipstain, and it worked out for me! I have a tan completion, so I got lucky it looked good! I like how it goes on and does not last as long as I would hope, but I still love it! There are many complaints about the product falling out of container, but I find that it is easy to twist the product up when trying to open it, so ladies when opening this try to not twist, but pull straight out! :) Would you buy this product again? The colors and product itself are great--but the package ticked me off! The cap on my brand new LipSurgence WOULD NOT come off. If you experience this same problem, pull the bottom off first--be careful because the whole inside device will come out, including the turning mechanism and the product part of the stick. THEN the cap will come off. Re-assemble and never put the cap on all the way because it'll just get stuck and impossible to remove again. This is the most insanely stubborn cap I have ever encountered---I can open stuck pickle jars but this cap was a pain in the butt! Tarte: try putting this product in a pot or something else because this package is irritating. Would you buy this product again? Yes

i recently was introduced to Tarte natural matte lip stain through Kandee Johnson's youtube videos. one of her favorite lip colors is the lucky lip stain, so (on a whim) i bought it after watching her video. the stain really does last much longer than any other stain i have ever purchased. i've been using it almost daily, especially to work. very good product, definitely will purchase more. I just got the color lively and I love it! It's an amazing hot pink that is really bright and just what I was looking for. The color lasts for at least 4 hours for me with just one application but the matte color is one of the best results I've ever gotten. I own these in Envy and Exposed and bought them from Ulta, which advertises them as a Lip Stain. That claim, my friends, is FALSE. I love the colors of both of these pencils, they are truly rich and vibrant. But they last nowhere near as long as a true lip stain, and I notice on this website they are listed as lip tints which may be a more accurate description. Aside from that my only complaint, as with other tarte cosmetics, is that with the amount of product I get I pay a lot of money. I truly love the concept and mission of tarte, but feel I get ripped off with what little product actually comes in these items. I started using my Hope about a week ago. The shade is truly a warm based rose. On my skin ( I wear warm ivory shades of foundation like Tarte Smooth Operator in Conceal), it's a little deeper than I normally wear. If you are fair and looking for MLBB shade, this is probably not it. If you olive or dark, this is it! This is my first matte crayon, so I can't compare it to other brands, but it IS MUCH more moisturizing than matte lipsticks I've tried. It didn't stay through a meal, but if you don't put a gloss over, it will stay a few hours. With a gloss, I found that it doesn't last any longer than a lipliner pencil.
The big issue with this crayon is that it broke after a couple of days. I pulled the cap off and the whole crayon fell out onto the counter! I was also surprised that there was only about 1.5 inches of actual product! I pushed it back in and so far it has stayed there, but I have to be very careful with it. For the price, you don't get much lipstick. I'm not sure I would buy it again at the regualr price. Would you buy this product again? Yes

The matte lip look is something to get use to, and I think the color is a lot lighter and chalkier than the image above. What came as a big surprise was the scent. It almost smelled like tea-tree oil/eraser combined together. So definitely check that out!
Although I don't necessarily regret my purchase, I expected more from the lip tint. Would you buy this product again? Yes

This lip tint is another goregous product that will work wonders for your skin. The color selection is great! Although I have only bought two, hope and lucky, they have sold me. They really do add so much moisture to your lips while leaving that perfect matte lip that looks great with gloss on top or just as it is. It has a nice consistency that is not sticky. It feels as though you are not wearing anything on your lips! It also has peppermint oil infused, so your lips have a slight tingly feeling to them. This is my new favorite and will definitely order again and again! I could not recommend this product enough. Would you buy this product again? Yes

I love the way this feels, and the color lasts longer than most others I have tried. However, I got the Lively and it isn't a good color for me, it is a little too bright for me.

I think if the color had turned out as i thought it might, i would like the product much better. However, the nude is too light and orange for my skin color. I thought it would be more brown than peach. Just my opinion. Try it for yourself. It wasn't worth the money. But you always take a chance when ordering on-line.
