Most of us associate summertime with lazy weekends, laid-back outdoor get-togethers and wearing flip-flops 24-7 – or at least during waking hours. Summer is also synonymous with our favorite past time — the BBQ. This year we challenge you to take it up a notch.
This 4th of July, don’t just grill, make it an extraordinary event to remember. Choose a theme and party on in serious style.
Old School Clam Bake
Not in the mood for hot dogs and beer? Add a pinch of panache to your 4th by shelving the grill and hosting a clam bake. And don’t worry; you don’t have to dig the clams.
As the temperature keeps rising, the only thing I want to put on these days is… nothing at all, really. Once the forecast hits 85 degrees, it just seems damn near impossible to keep cool, no matter how little clothing one wears. So, I’ve been wearing the only item that feels close to going around in the nude: the sundress.
This sweet little design was practically made for those sweltering days when the most you want on your body is a slight piece of cotton. And, fortunately for us eco-friendly fashionistas, you don’t have to look too hard to find a sustainable version of this item of clothing. There are plenty of places to find sundresses made from organic, recycled, or sustainable materials, such as the four adorable options below.
1. American Apparel that bastion of simple cotton wear, now offers their classic summer dress in organic cotton and multitude of colors. You can’t see it, but it has an adorable criss-cross back.
Summertime means a lot of things: rooftop parties, lazy afternoons on the front porch, beach weekends… and concerts. What’s better than a warm night spent rocking out to your favorite artists performing live?
Nothing beats an outdoor concert, and this year there are a plethora of tours to choose from. To make things easy on you, we broke down which shows are must-sees — and why.
Steve Aoki — Leave the ticket stub laying on the backseat of your car for a little tendy cred.
Katy Perry — Sure you consider your musical tastes a little above Katy Perry, but let’s face it, her tunes are catchy. And who doesn’t want to make out to Teenage Dream?
Justin Bieber – We’re not suggesting you really want to see the beebs, but you probably have a younger cousin or niece who does…wink, wink.
Aerosmith Global Warming Tour — No matter how many bands come and go, Aerosmith always seems to keep their cool factor. Just know that you may run into your parents at the show.
Wiz Khalifa — One of the top stars of 2012, this is one performer you don’t want to miss.
Beach Boys — This group basically invented the endless summer. Grab some tickets and indulge!
Madonna — If you were too young to get into one of her shows in the ’80s ( or the ’90s), here’s your chance to get up close and personal with the material girl.
Lady Antebellum — Deep down we all have a little country in our hearts, at least this group doesn’t make us feel guilty about it.
Journey — If you’ve ever seen Glee then you probably love Journey. Give up the fight, go buy some tix and see them in person.
Duran Duran — Three words: “80s Dance Party.”

Girls love things that smell delicious — perfumes, oils, good cooking and, of course, candles. Candles can set the tone, change a room, or create a fresh-scented atmosphere. But do you ever wonder just what you’re breathing in while they’re burning down? Is it just a sweet scent or it could be icky chemicals?
The remedy? Soy candles. I recently purchased these amazing soy candles from Etsy in an effort to refresh my living space. Perfectly scented, dye-free, and 100% soy, they’re filled into rustic 8 oz. Mason jars. These candles are made in small batches and hand-poured. Did I mention that they’re Vegan friendly? Check out my faves below.

Dads are good for lots of things: scaring away under-the-bed monsters, whipping boyfriends into shape, teaching us how to use a tool box, and giving the best bear hugs. Oh, and inspiring some great style. Yep – some of this blogger’s favorite fashion ideas are pulled from her pop’s closet.

In 2009 Amanda Judge was working as an Ad Sales Executive at MTV Newtworks, living with her boyfriend in a small apartment in Astoria, Queens and, as a creative outlet, making beautiful, handmade headbands in her spare time. By May of that year, her boyfriend (now husband) Nick convinced her to list one of them on Esty, just for fun. And from that one little leap of faith, Untamed Petals — now a top bridal accessories company specializing in chic, feminine one-of-a-kind pieces — was born.
We’ve got matrimony on the brain here at tarte. We recently launched our bridal page, are hosting a giveaway with Untamed Petals, and even have our own in-house bride-to-be! Our amazing account analyst Kim will be tying the knot in 9 days! To give her one last single-girl surprise, we planed a mini bridal shower full of best wishes, giddy tartelettes and sweet treats — these scrumptious cake pops, whipped up by our multi-talented senior graphic designer Erica!
So again, from all of us at tarte, congratulations Kim!
