winter necessities: tights
While we love charming hats and super-cute boots and maybe a hot toddy or two, tights rank at number one on our list of wintertime essentials. They give us the chance to wear our favorite filmy frocks year-round without looking ridiculous… or freezing our gams off. They’re practically magic. The best ones, we think, accentuate an outfit without distracting from it. This season, we’ve shelved our bright tights of years past and replaced them with a repertoire of classic sheer and black patterns.
Here are a few of our favorite styles.
These ones are the go-to’s when you want something with a little more oomph than basic black. A polka-dot pattern, while the tiny dots are simple abd lend a touch of chic to any understated look, the reverse, white on black, add a punky edge.
Because we can never resist a little sparkle – even when it comes to our legs.
Back-seamed tights were a staple for women in the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s, and with good reason. The line at the back of this type of tight elongates and accentuates the leg for a super-sexy effect. We’ve been spotting seams on gorgeous women around New York, and we liked the look so much that we’ve started wearing them ourselves, to rave reviews.
For those really blustery days, nothing warms us up — or looks as adorable — like a thick pair of sweater tights.
Sometimes, black tights on top of an all-black outfit makes us feel funeral-ready. That’s why we jumped for joy when the stylish Duchess of Cambridge made nude tights cool again. We’re rocking the classic stockings for the first time since private school, and loving it. They’re made even better with the addition of some pattern – like this flirty bow.
