girl crush: mindy kaling

Mindy Kaling is the type of girl we’ve been longing to see on the silver screen for ages. She’s so refreshingly real and representative of young women in a way that other young starlets aren’t. With her razor-sharp sense of humor, her sheer guts, and, yes, even her insecurities, she is the hilarious and admirable friend we wish we had. We’ve loved her since we found out she was more than just a ditz on The Office – oh yeah, she was a writer and  co-executive producer for the show, too. Her charming memoir, Is Everyone Hanging out Without Me? (And Other Concerns), endeared her even more to our hearts. And, now, her new sitcom, The Mindy Project, has the potential to be a funnier, more light-hearted, primetime derivative of Girls.

We’ll definitely be watching – will you?

girl crush: isla fisher

Born to Scottish parents in Oman, Fisher was raised in Australia where she cut her teeth on a slew of soap operas before catching Hollywood’s attention. A genuine funny girl, the red headed knock-out not only has a number of box office blockbuster movies under her belt, but she’s also the wife of notorious comedian Sacha Baron Cohen  — boy, would we’d love hear that dinner table banter.

Not only do we love her style, but we also appreciate her moxy – Fisher has openly criticized Hollywood for the lack of opportunities for female comedians. While that may be true, her new comedy Bachelorette showcases a host of funny women, and Fisher gives her a hubby a run for his money. And come on, who doesn’t love a girl who can truly rock a subtle, smokey eye?

icon envy: christie brinkley or brooke shields

Let’s say you wake up tomorrow and it’s 1985 — arguably one of the best years in recent American history: the fashion scene had finally shaken off the shagginess of the ’70s, Wall St. still seemed heroic, music hadn’t shattered in to a million genres and subgenres, and John Hughes was still making movies. Now take a moment and think about your 1985 self. Who’s magazine cover would you leave on the nightstand for style inspiration, Booke Shields’ or Christie Brinkley’s? More >
