In the age of fashion blogging and guerilla photogs, street style stars have almost eclipsed runway shows as the focus of New York Fashion Week. And while most of us may not have the cash to snag next season’s hottest designer pieces, we can create our favorite trendsetters’ looks right now, with items we probably already own. Here are four of our favorite street style looks from NYFW with tips on how to pull them together at home. More >
Well, tartelettes, that’s a wrap: New York Fashion Week is officially over. The last makeup cases and sewing kits were packed up at Lincoln Center last night… but, for us, the fun is only getting started.
Now we get to play dress-up! We’ve checked out our favorite shows and pulled a few trends that will be inspiring our fall wardrobes.
who wears the pants?
After a few seasons of watching ethereal dress after ethereal dress traipse down the runway, it was a pleasure to see a more moody and structured silhouette return for fall 2012. Gorgeous, tailored trousers were everywhere, such as this fifties-inspired pair from J.Crew.
When it’s cold outside, there’s nothing we love more then a ridiculously oversized sweater. If you’re like us, you’re in luck: fall 2012 brings tons of chunky and loose-knit jumpers, like this one from Michael Kors.
Make an outerwear statement
the dark side
The overall sentiment in the design world seems to have shifted from soft and girly to dark and moody. From the abundance of dark colors – wine and black being the most common – to the more structured silhouettes, the clothes this fashion week seemed more brooding and complex and, therefore, more interesting, like this look from Yigal Azrouel.
During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, tarte’s celebrity makeup artist Tony Ballard created beautiful looks for the CW’s Plain Jane, Louise Roe and AMC’s Mad Men, Nora Zehtner. Both were spotted at Andy & Debb’s Spring 2011 Presentation last week rocking some tarte products! Look like a fashionista–here’s what Tony used:
Louise Roe at Andy & Debb Spring 2011 Presentation
- Added a pop of color to her cheeks with tarte’s eco-cheek natural cheek stain
- Created a clean, simple eye with shades from tarte’s femme naturale palette
- Really played up the lashes with several coats of tarte’s lights, camera, lashes! 4-in-1 natural mascara
Nora Zehtner at Andy & Debb Spring 2011 Presentation
- Created a flawless complexion with tarte’s ReCreate anti-aging foundation
- Highlighted skin with tarte’s smooth operator illuminating serum
- Added a touch of pink glow with tarte’s TEN limited-edition natural cheek stain
- Created a classic, doe eye with tarte’s femme naturale palette, emphasEYES™ aqua-gel in black and several coats of tarte’s lights, camera, lashes! 4-in-1 natural mascara
- For her pout, used tarte’s LipSurgence™ matte lip stain in lucky mixed with tarte’s LipSurgence™ lip stain in lust.
These past two weeks have been CRAZZZY for anyone wrapped up in this glamorous world we call the fashion/beauty industry. It started with Vogue’s retail extravaganza and Fashion’s Night Out! And Mercedes Benz New York Fashion week is coming to an end. The culmination of a season’s planning has finally come to fruition. I’m happy to report that I’m tossed in the mix of this wildness & I love it! (Check back later this week for a recap of Odd Molly’s spring collection where tarte is creating the look this evening)!
Amongst everything, I love to go back and look through all of the images of the shows and spot emerging trends. Surprisingly, thus far, I’ve seen a lot of neutrals and minimalism for the spring 2011 season (unlike punchy colors of the past). The color crème/ivory has been pretty prominent on the runway. I love the crisp elegance of the looks above (l-to-r: Dennis Basso, Ports 1961, and Reem Acra). What do you think? What would you love to see for spring 2011 and most importantly what trend would you love to never see again?!
Early Sunday morning under the tents at Bryant Park, you could say the tarte team felt more in outer space than midtown Manhattan. OK maybe that’s a bit extreme, but Lela Rose was inspired by the textures and depths of the universe and her Fall 2010 collection speaks to that notion of nighttime skies and lunar moons. The tarte artistry team along with celebrity makeup artist lead, Tina Turnbow had the privilege to create the beauty look that complimented the ‘constellation like’ lineup. Tina created a muted, matte & cloudy complexion using tarte’s smooth operator tinted-moisturizer, provocateur pressed powder, blissful natural cheek stain & t-zone travel mattifying powder. But the focus was on the mysterious, moonlit eyes. Turnbow and team shaped depth with black, silver & graphite shadows using their eye-couture palettes; working from the outer corners in, they left no edges to the hazy look. A balmy but muted pout, textured updo by Ted Gibson & sparkling nails by Debra Lippman completed the ethereal feel. After two hours of backstage chaos & anticipation (might I add much-enjoyed chaos) the leggy beauties strutted the runway & “across the universe”.
Today’s Fashion Week Giveaway-A-Day is running right here on our blog. We completed some glam looks for this weekend’s fashion shows using our smooth operator natural tinted-moisturizer as a go-to product. So, enter your ‘go-to’ product (doesn’t have to be beauty!) in the comments box below to enter–there will be five winners & you get to choose your shade!
P.S. My go-to product other than my tarte goodies is Poland Spring Sparkling Water in lemon or raspberry.
WINNER UPDATE! Congratulations to the following:
This weekend tarte had the pleasure of kicking off Fashion Week at the Bryant Park Hotel with eco-chic designer Susan Woo! Despite all the chaos backstage, I was able to interview Susan (we’ll be posting the video on YouTube this week) and hear about her Medieval armor inspiration for the Fall 2010 collection. The one thing she consistently mentioned was that this modern-day woman is an effortless beauty. Collaborating with the tarte team, natural makeup artist Tina Turnbow complimented the wearable organic wools & cottons with a natural look for the presentation. The makeup was all about dewy, luminous skin with slightly flushed cheeks and berry stain on the lips. With glowing skin and tousled tresses by Bumble & Bumble, it’s definitely a look that’s easy to recreate and great to rock both day & night. Oh, also spotted looking flawless at the presentation was The Hills’ Olivia Palermo. Love her.
