The Academy of Country Music Awards – the country music world’s self-declared “Party of the Year” – kicked off to a rollickin’, country-lovin’ good time last night with a boot-tapping performance by Carrie Underwood. Hosted by Reba McIntire and Blake Shelton, the evening was full of performances, both fun (as with a rousing, booze-soaked rendition of “Red Solo Cup”) and heartfelt. Of course, it being a country kinda night, there was enough sparkly cleavage, formal denim, and big hair to last us all year. Amidst these Texas-size accoutrements, however, there were a few fashion standouts. Here, we’ve declared our red-carpet winners from last night’s ACMA’s.
The Little Big Town singer stood out from her group in a gorgeous sequined dress. Love the wavey, Missoni-esque print – and the daring neckline!

The beautiful Kate Bosworth arrived at the premiere of L!fe Happens not only wearing a gorgeous pink number, but also decked out in tarte. Celebrity makeup artist Amy Nadine wanted to give her a look that would compliment her hot pink Richard Nicoll dress. She “opted for a simple and soft look to highlight Kate’s natural beauty.” She incorporated delicate pops of pink on her cheeks and lips. Following Amy’s easy steps, there’s no reason why you can’t replicate Kate’s look at home!
- To begin Amy applied tarte’s smooth operator™ tinted moisturizer in agent 04 all over Kate’s skin with a foundation brush.
- For the area below her eyes, she used tarte’s new maracuja creaseless concealer in light.
- She then used tarte’s smooth operator™ Amazonian clay finishing powder in bronze as a contour on the hollows of the cheek
- For a subtle glow, she used tarte’s natural cheek stain in blissful, a warm peachy-pink, on the apples of her cheeks and along her cheekbones dusted tarte’s Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in dollface for a hint of pink.
- To ensure that her look lasted through the evening, Amy used tarte’s lifted natural eyelid primer.
- Using the new tarte™ for True Blood™ limited-edition palette, Amy applied charmer (sparkling burnt copper/golden peach) in the crease and dawn (shimmering gold dust) all over the lid.
- For volume and separation on her upper lashes, Amy used tarte’s gifted Amazonian clay smart mascara.
- To frame Kate’s eyes, Amy used tarte’s emphasEYES brow high definition eyebrow pencil in medium brown (one shade darker).
- To complete Kate’s “pretty in pink” look, Amy used tarte’s LipSurgence lip tint in amused (bright pink) on her pout.
What tarte products are you wearing on your “red carpet”?
Each week we’ll be featuring our favorite style icons that portray fresh, eco-chic looks that work morning, noon and night. To kick it off this week we’re featuring America’s sweetheart Rachel Bilson. Whether she’s grabbing a coffee, running errands, walking her dog, or hitting up the Red Carpet, Rachel’s always looking amazing! The bronzed beauty doesn’t stop! Our eco-fashionista has sported many different looks and we’ve selected some of our favorites to share with you.
From pants and maxis to shorts, she always chooses styles that flatter her petite shape…
A regular on the Red Carpet, she can don a sultry look in black or a more bohemian take in a cream shade. She’s constantly changing it up with pops of fresh color that impel her to stand out.
To replicate Rachel’s eco-friendly style try incorporating these accessories into your wardrobe: a weaved-tote, a black-quilted bag or a fantastic pair of neutral pumps. These key pieces work with so many different looks giving you a more versatile take on your closet. Other items you’ll find Rachel wearing are trendy sunglasses, a bold cuff or a black blazer—these can be worn with almost anything in your closet. Go nuts, have fun, and outshine this summer with a fresh new style!
We want to know: what staple item will you be purchasing this season?

It’s April and that means it’s time for us to introduce this month’s new artist. Please meet celebrity makeup artist Mathias Alan! He has painted gorgeous faces and created eye-catching hair styles for Red Carpet beauties, television hosts, and commercial talent. I had the pleasure of catching up with Mathias and this Q+ A is just a quick snapshot into Mathias’ world. You can learn more about him on his site www.mathias4makeup.com, but here’s just one tidbit from the master: he considers tarte’s dark circle defense the perfect cure for those puffy bags underneath your eyes. Hope you enjoy reading about Mathias, one of my favorite makeup artists.
I’m Kate—the newest member of the tarte team. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to blog about beauty, fashion and all things glamorous. For my official post, I’ve decided to share my thoughts on some of my favorite Oscar beauty trends. I know I’m a little late to the convo, but I’ve finally had the chance to digest all of the gorgeous gals!
I thought that stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Hillary Swank both dazzled with a natural , look. By using a nude lip color and sporting a rosy cheek, they flawlessly pulled it off with ease. Mila Kunis, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry and Michelle Williams all looked stunning rocking a sultry, smokey eye. They balanced it perfectly by complimenting the strong eye with softer shades on their cheeks and lips. And one of my all-time favorite trends of the evening was the classic look. I think Anne Hathaway and Sandra Bullock pulled this off well with a bold red lip color.
What were some of your favorite beauty trends?
First date, your best friend’s wedding, a long overdue night out on the town with the girls….do you ever find yourself desperate for an incredible makeup artist to make you look and feel as glamorous as those strutting the Red Carpet? If only there was a place where you could pop in and have your makeup done by the best artists with the best products, and not feel obligated to purchase. Well ladies, the dream is over. It does exist. Enter Makeup & Go! It’s the first-of-its-kind, full-service makeup studio providing time-pressed beauty lovers a one-stop-shop to gorgeous! With their first location in Cali, I was lucky enough to meet some of their incredible artists and outfit their kits with the latest and greatest from tarte. While working with them I soon realized the scope of their talent; their chairs are filled with the everyday woman one minute and Hollywood’s glam goddesses the next. For awards season, Makeup & Go! has created additional pop-up shops to ensure those smiling for the camera are looking their best. With all that being said, I figured the perfect artist to chat with for February is one of Makeup & Go!’s very own, Anna Marco. Read our Q+A to learn more about her endless talent, and if you happen to be in the Brentwood area head to Makeup & Go! to sit in her chair. No appointment necessary. Easy access to the best talent? Well, that’s just AMAZING.
Let’s just tell it like it is, Heidi Klum is one hot mama. At last night’s 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy’s, this mom of four proved to us that she’s still got it (and I don’t think it’s going away anytime soon). Contrary to other goers’ gowns, her Marchesa mini and Lorraine Schwartz necklace were ultra glam and equally eye popping. Most of all, I loved how her upswept hair was the perfect complement to her radiant complexion and beautiful eye makeup. It’s the perfect evening look that I plan to recreate for a wedding I have in November. So, I figured why not share how easy it is to achieve.
First things first, her luminous skin creates the perfect back drop to her kohl-rimmed eyes. Tarte’s limited-edition radiant & rested collection includes all of the necessary fresh-faced goodies for just this: ReCreate™ primer, park ave princess mineral bronzer, limited-edition cheek stain in glisten, emphasEYES™ inner rim brightener and smooth operator™ illuminating serum. When combined, these products create a radiant look. Her natural, glowing complexion is topped off with a simple lip choice. I suggest you pucker-up with our 24.7 natural lip sheer in Sunday for Heidi’s soft pout.
Now, let’s move on to those gorgeous eyes—the focus of this look. The colors are basic, but the application is precise for an eye-opening effect. The last thing you want to create are heavily lined beady eyes. Start by applying a shimmering bone shadow (lock & roll 12-hour eyeshadow in sandstone). Make sure to get the inner corners of the eyes for an instantly brightening effect. Using our brand new emphasEYES™ aqua-gel eyeliner in black, line the upper lashline and ONLY the outer half of the lower lashline. Line your inner rims with the inner rim brightener from the radiant and rested kit. This will help open your eyes by making the whites appear brighter. Finish off with 2 coats of multiplEYE™ natural lash enhancing mascara for Heidi’s camera-worthy lashes. That’s it! This really is super easy and like I mentioned before, wear this look with your hair off your face. After all, you want to show how pretty you are!
As the stars walked the Red Carpet some looks were right on and others, well…. not so much. Three of my favorite dresses were all different with one common thread: the ultra-feminine, sweetheart neckline. This super-girly cut really shows off your collar bones & in my opinion, collar bones are sexy (notice there’s no need for necklaces with these gowns)! Now I know Miley Cyrus received some “flack” for her champagne Jenny Packham gown, but this young & fresh number is just perfect for her. Let’s be honest, if any of us could wear it, we would–she looked incredible! On the other end of the color spectrum was Carey Mulligan’s Swarovski-encrusted Prada gown. The sweetheart neckline is perfectly complimented by her pixie cut and chandelier earrings. Essentially, the look is girly meets edgy. My personal favorite who got it all right: Rachel McAdams. She had me at The Notebook and this look is a far cry from her breakout role in Mean Girls. Her makeup is impeccable & her watercolor-organza Elie Saab gown is just incredibly romantic and whimsical. Who were your favorites?
It was Hollywood’s biggest night & this self-proclaimed fashion junkie nearly had a meltdown when channel 7 vanished right before my eyes. The mere thought of missing Barbara Walters’ Special, the Red Carpet & main event was the trifecta of nightmares (a special thanks to E! for keeping me sane). After hunting (for what seemed like an eternity) for an online live stream (with no luck) someone came to their senses and ABC was back—I think fireworks went off in my living room.
As I settled down in sheer bliss to see my favorite stars strut their stuff, I started my critique…love it, hate it! I’ll share my favorite dress trend in my next post so please stay tuned, but I wanted to first talk about the beauty looks. Let’s face it; these girls would look gorgeous even if they were wearing paper bags. Two refreshing red carpet trends: natural, dewey makeup and pop color pouts.
My favorite creamy & flawless faces were Anna Kendrick, Amanda Seyfried and Zoe Saldana. There’s no better look for these young ladies than radiant skin that reveals their natural beauty. Don’t mean to brag, but Anna was rocking some of my favorite tarte products. After makeup artist Sara Glick prepped her with Arcona’s Magic White Ice hydrating gel, she then topped Anna’s cheeks with tarte’s natural cheek stain in eco-cheek for the perfect flush. For her pretty pink pout, she used a combo of LipSurgence™ natural gel lip stain in charmed & double-ended lipgloss in jake & samantha to enhance her perfect smile! We loved it…your thoughts?
I love a neutral face, but I also admire a pop color pout. Red, Coral, Fuschia whatever your pick—I love them all. I have been experimenting with this look for a few months now (ever since I had our first LipSurgence™ samples in my hand) and I think it’s best paired with a subtle eye (I like lock & roll in rose gold & a thin cat eye with indelible wink liner in black). It’s important to keep the concentration on the lips and play down the rest; this is the Oscar’s not an 80’s concert. Most importantly, when playing with colors have fun & be confident! My go-to lippies for this are tarte’s LipSurgence™ lip stains in amused and lust. Be honest, would you try this?
Stay tuned for more Oscar coverage
