“After seeing Amy’s gorgeous Giambattista Valli cream colored gown, I was inspired to transform her into a classic, “Old Hollywood” movie star.”-Stephen Sollitto, celebrity makeup artist
Makeup artist tip: “clean slate 360 poreless™ 12-hr perfecting primer is ideal for oilier areas like your nose, chin, and under eyes—it’s great for minimizing the appearance of your pores and filling in any fine lines! Then smooth clean slate flawless™ 12-hr brightening primer on your cheeks and forehead—it has a slight sheen which looks great under foundation and makes your complexion look more luminous.” – Stephen Sollitto
-To begin Stephen used tarte’s clean slate flawless™ 12-hr brightening primer to prep Amy’s face.
-Using tarte’s airbrush finish bamboo foundation brush, he buffed in tarte’s Amazonian clay 12-hour full coverage foundation with Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in light for a perfect satin finish.
-Next, Stephen swirled tarte’s Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in blushing bride on Amy’s cheeks, followed by a light layer of tarte’s maracuja blush & glow brightening luminizer and cheek tint in candlelight on her cheek bones to create radiance and a subtle sheen.
-Stephen started with a soft wash of shimmering golden peach from tarte’s neutralEYES eye shadow palette volume II on Amy’s lids.
-To add further definition, he applied tarte’s Amazonian clay waterproof cream eyeshadow in plum smoke along her lashlines and into her creases.
-He finished by lining her eyes with multiplEYE™ clinically-proven lash enhancing liquid liner and drawing outward to create a cat-eye.
-For extra volume Stephen applied two coats of tarte’s lights, camera, lashes!™ 4-1in-1 clinically-proven mascara.
-To finish Amy’s look, Stephen filled in her lips with tarte’s glamazon™ pure performance lipstick in wild to make her lips pop. (*out exclusively at Sephora in July 2012)

Another New York Fashion Week, another Fashion’s Night Out — and it was a huge success! We were so excited to meet all the tartelettes who made it out, as well as those who tweeted along with us through the night.
The tarte™ team set up shop at Sephora 5 Times Square to celebrate FNO and our tarte™ for True Blood ™ collection, where the stunning and eco-friendly celebrity Kristin Bauer, aka Pam from True Blood®, made an appearance. She looked absolutely gorgeous thanks to the help of our very own tarte makeup artist Tony Ballard. (p.s. Our next blog post will feature Kristin’s complete look with details on how you can recreate it). Kristin was wearing tarte’s LipSurgence™ matte lip tint in fiery, which gave her a perfectly sultry pout. Despite her day job playing the severe vamp Pam, Kristin was incredibly friendly and easy going. She stayed for over two hours to greet fans and pose for photos — the line to meet her stretched all the way around the store!
While Kristin was True Blooding it up with fans, our super talented team of tarte makeup artists were hard at work, giving mini makeovers to lucky FNOers (yeah, that line was pretty long too). By the end of the night Sephora was packed with perfectly done, sparkling red pouts.
And that’s not all, downtown, QVC hosted a star-studded event with a to-die-for beauty bar. While celebs like Heidi Klum, Isaac Mizrahi and Sarah Jessica Parker mingled, tarte’s very own Jen and Leigh were teaching party-goers how to create the perfect lip with LipSurgence™ lip tints.
And for those who couldn’t make it to any of the events in person, we also hosted our first FNO twitter raffle. We’re so pleased to announce @jules79200 as the winner of an exclusive tarte™ for True Blood ™ prize package!
Tonight is Fashion’s Night Out and tarte™ is thrilled to be a part of it! For the past three years this event has taken over New York City, drawing trendsetters, fashionistas, design junkies, and glamour girls—and guys—from across the nation to ring in New York Fashion Week. We’ll be participating in not one, but three events tonight.
First, between 7pm and 9pm EST, we’ll be at Sephora Times Square hanging out with True Blood actress Kristin Bauer, giving mini makeovers and raffling off tarte™ for True Blood™ packages. Those of you not in New York can enter our online raffle. Tweet out ‘tarte rocks #FNO’ and link to this blog between now and 9pm EST and *you could be selected to win a tarte™ for True Blood™ prize package.
Then from 6pm to midnight EST we’re participating in QVC’s Fashion’s Night Out Experience Event, where you can meet us in person— the event will be held at 428 Broadway in Manhattan and is open to the public! tarte fans will have the opportunity to get pretty pout makeovers with our Lipsurgence™ lip tints and lusters while learning how to create the perfect lip.
Can’t catch either of these in person? No worries, for the first time ever FNO is bringing the celebration online. If you visit tarte.com tonight, between 6pm and 11pm EST and purchase a multiplEYE™ lash enhancer with the code FNO, you’ll get the multiplEYE™ primer and mascara FREE!
Plus, we’ll be live tweeting the entire evening, giving you an exclusive behind the scenes look at FNO tarte style. So if you haven’t already, follow us now at @tartecosemetics.
It’s going to be a fashion and beauty filled evening of glamour and fun and we can’t wait to see you there!
*Our twitter raffle is only open to those with US addresses.
This past weekend I had the opportunity to spend some major time with True Blood’s makeup artist department head-Brigitte Myre-Ellis along with the NYC tarte and Sephora teams! I’m so excited to give you a rundown of the vampy festivities!
On Friday, the tarte team had an incredible Q&A session with the beautiful Brigette Myre-Ellis. Not only is the woman a walking billboard for her INCREDIBLE work, but her grace and humility are unrivaled in an industry of egos. She spoke about her humble beginnings, rise to success, and of course, her inspiration for the scary-gorgeous looks she creates for True Blood. Her precocious start in the industry was especially resonant for me, and after having the opportunity to speak privately with her, I felt extremely motivated to continue following my dreams in the beauty industry.
Then, before I knew it, it was Saturday, and time for tarte’s big event! Feeling super-encouraged, I was excited for what the day ahead held! There was a tarte truck passing out delicious (and organic, of course) red velvet cupcakes parked right in front of the store on Broadway in SoHo, but inside, all of the Sephora cast members (employees) had been thoroughly vampire-fied! From blood to fangs to fairy-inspired glitter, it was all there! tarte™ for true Blood™ palettes lined each and every shelf, and gothic candelabras decorated the beauty studio. The outpouring of support and appreciation by Sephora’s staff was unparalleled with anything I had ever seen and I knew I was in for an amazing day!
So, from 12pm to 7pm, myself and the other tarte artists (I had the pleasure of working with Tony, Sasha, Shari, Christina, and of course, Brian) took Soho’s makeup-savvy set from simple and pretty to gloriously gorgeous! Whether they chose a look that Brigette designed (included in the palette) or we created one on-the-spot, all of our clients loved their new looks. What made their total “True Blood” transformations even better was that they got the chance to have their palettes signed by Brigette, who had set up shop in the front of the store from 2pm to 5pm.
After hours and hours of makeup mania, with just enough time to clean my brushes in between each client, I was tired yet fantastically energized by the event. It is wonderful to be able to bestow women with a sense of pride and beauty with our high-performance natural™ products. They can feel certain that the products they are now using are not harming the earth or their bodies but also not sacrificing color or performance with the dazzling new tarte™ for True Blood™ line.
Til next time!
The tarte team kicked-off Earth Month by celebrating our collaboration with Celebrity Makeup Artist and Green Beauty Expert, Tina Turnbow. The ‘Go Gorgeously Green’ event was held all day on Friday at Sephora 42nd & Madison, NYC. Using her tarte flower child collection, Tina gave gorgeous spring makeovers and provided customers with her expert tips and tricks from bridal beauty to an eco-friendly alternative for a smokey eye. Everyone had a great time & here are the pics to prove it. Follow tarte on Twitter and Facebook for regular event updates—we hope to see you at the next one!
From novelist (and certified Tarte-aholic) Kristin Harmel, the author of six books, including Italian for Beginners and After
I am endlessly drawn to the Tarte display at Sephora. I giggle at the lip gloss names. I try on the different cheek stains. And on one recent trip, I even found myself stopping a startled stranger and gushing about how great Tarte is. That’s the day I knew for sure that I had a problem.
I was trying to kick the habit, really I was. And then Candace and Kristin from Tarte asked if I wanted to blog for Tarte this month. Now, here I am, more addicted than ever! I fear the cycle will never end!
I first met the Tarte gals when I wrote a magazine article about Tarte founder Maureen Kelly in 2006. It was the kindness of everyone associated with Tarte that drew me in initially, but I truly became a devotee once I started using the products. Now, here I am, happily addicted!
I’m looking forward to chatting with you this month! I’ll tell you all about my novels – and how I use Tarte to get ready for my TV appearances – next week. But in the meantime, I’ll leave you with a list of the Tarte products currently in my makeup bag!
- Face: Clean Slate Natural Face Primer
- Cheeks: Natural Cheekstain: Tipsy and Tickled
- Eyes: Eyeshadow in Bathtub Gin; Lock & Roll in Gunmetal; Lights, Camera, Lashes! mascara
- Lips: Lip stain in Moody, topped with lip gloss in Roger & Mimi

When accepting a gift it’s always important to remain thankful. In this awkward moment try your best to uphold your manners—no glimpse of shock or horror. Stay classy. After asking around for some tips from some true masters of animated appreciation I have narrowed it down to 3 easy steps:
Step 1: Know your audience. Show your appreciation and make it look real, even if you feel your taste is way better.
Step 2: The wrong expression can hurt the feelings of the giver. Although you can’t seem to come to any conclusion as to why they bought this for you, give them the benefit of the doubt (they bought this picturing your excitement). So be just that, surprised and excited.
Step 3: Always smile & always say thank you. Even ask where they got such a “unique & thoughtful” gift (in your head you can picture yourself at the return counter).
Now, I know these may be easier said than done. Just remember, it’s the season of generosity—it can always be worse.
