glam on, rain or shine…

While most of the country has been experiencing one of the driest, hottest summers in history, here in New York City we’ve been repeatedly hit by unexpected and brutal rainstorms — thank goodness for waterproof mascara!  And while the summer is (very) slowly cooling to a close, it’s clear these bouts of inclement weather are not. As a tartelette you know you can head into any storm — or humidity level — confident that your makeup won’t budge, melt or drip, but what about the rest of your look? More >

Spring Training: Physique 57

Hi tartelettes!

It’s officially spring and that means summer is right around the corner. Translated: I need to get my butt in gear for skirt and short season here on the East Coast and up the ante on my healthy living plan. As I’ve blogged about in the past, I’m all about trying new fitness routines. Last year, I ran my first half-marathon and then in November I ran the NYC marathon in 4h5min! I also incorporated boot camp at 360Fit, intense spinning at Flywheel Sports and some Bikram Yoga moves into my workout schedule last year.

This year I’m taking a different approach and trying the infamous Physique 57 (Kelly Ripa is a fan). I had my first beginner’s class last Sunday and then on Wednesday I took an open class with my friend Jessica—it was tough! Basically, you start the class off with warm-up moves and then you incorporate weights to tone and strengthen your arms. Next up: pushups and lots of them. Then it’s on to the bar where you do every imaginable leg move to tone the thighs, hamstrings, calves, booty—you name it! It incorporates a lot of moves (squeeze/tone/pulse) that require a ball (think: dodgeball). You finish off the class with abs and mat work. What’s great about this interval program is that after you complete a series of exercises—literally, you can’t do anymore—you then stretch the muscle. It was such a difficult workout, but I really loved the intensity of it. I was sweating, but I will say my waterproof makeup was still on. Oh, and believe me, you feel it for the next 2 days, too. This cardiovascular program of isometric exercises and orthopedic stretches is sure to kick of my personal spring training!!

What are you doing to keep healthy this spring?! And what makeup do you wear while working out? For me, I can’t go anywhere without mascara!! Share your comments below. We’d love to hear!

Lilac Lids!

Summer is the perfect time of year to lighten up and have fun with your beauty routine. However, straying from your neutrals and incorporating color can be a bit scary. That’s why I’d suggest you start simple and try lilac. This ultra-girly hue compliments all eye shades, brightens the whites of your eyes and even neutralizes any yellowness in the lids. Not to mention you’ll be on trend—the Spring & Resort Runway Shows featured lots of lilac-brushed lids.

Sure, maybe here at tarte we’re a bit biased to our signature color, but what’s not to love?! All of the looks above are a bit romantic, appear effortless in the day against sunkissed skin & can carry you into the night with some added eyeliner. I especially love the way the shadow is swept along the bottom lash line. Achieving this look is quite easy. You can use a powder and wet your shadow brush to get a more concentrated pigment on the lid and then lightly highlight the brow bone. Keep in mind the summer time poses a challenge, think sticky heat and sweat: gross. So, I personally opt for lock & roll 12-hour eyeshadow in amethyst. This cream/powder double-ended wand is 100% budge-proof and creaseproof;  I promise your shadow won’t be migrating anywhere (even if you take a plunge in the pool). Simply swipe the cream along your lid and, if you like, under your lash line. Using the loose powder side, set the cream by using the rollerball applicator and sweep the powder up onto your brow bone. If you need to blend go ahead and use your fingers. Top with a coat of jet black, waterproof mascara!

So ladies, while your out celebrating the Fourth of July this weekend, let’s all have a little fun with lilac.

A College Girl’s Beauty Bag

Hey all!

My name is Kate. I’m a rising junior at Boston College and I also happen to be the new tarte PR intern, doing my best to dive into this glamorous world. I am soooo excited to be working at such a great, green company, not to mention giddy over the access to all the fab makeup!

Recently, I have tried out some of tarte’s newer products, and I must say, as a “college girl,” many of these products are totally ideal.  For instance, as I think many college students can relate, the party scene at school can get overcrowded, hot, and sweaty.  This is why I am in love with tarte’s new summer collection of waterproof products, perfect for girls like us!  So I have decided to put together a list of beauty products, hair and nails included, that are particularly alluring to a beauty addict in the midst of her education.

First off are my fave waterproof products. lights, camera, splashes! and matte waterproof park ave princess. I for one love to look bronze, but don’t want brown streaks of sweat rolling down my face whether I’m stressing in the library, lounging on the campus green or at a party. PAP is the perfect, sweat resilient bronzer. Next in the bag I would include tarte’s cheek stain, in tipsy, and LipSurgence™ natural  lip stain (in charmed).  Again, great long staying products, as well as easy and quick to use– I’m a girl on the go!

Now we can’t forget about the hair.  I have long fine wavy hair, that I like best when straight, however it’s hard to keep it that way when engulfed in humidity.  To keep my hair in place, I have come to turn to L’Oreal Elnett Extra Strong hold hair spray. It gets the job done, but doesn’t make my hair hard or crunchy.  I’m also a fan of chi volume boost.  I loooove volume and this really boosts my roots! Now for the nails.  As I’m sure many of you have heard, OPI has a new gel polish that I guarantee will last over a month without a chip.  I know I don’t have the time or money during school to get a manicure every week (because that’s how long a manicure lasts), so this gel formula is the perfect solution!

Well that’s it for the “college girl’s” beauty bag must haves. Please share any additions and I’ll be back with another post next week!
