girl crush: mindy kaling

Mindy Kaling is the type of girl we’ve been longing to see on the silver screen for ages. She’s so refreshingly real and representative of young women in a way that other young starlets aren’t. With her razor-sharp sense of humor, her sheer guts, and, yes, even her insecurities, she is the hilarious and admirable friend we wish we had. We’ve loved her since we found out she was more than just a ditz on The Office – oh yeah, she was a writer and  co-executive producer for the show, too. Her charming memoir, Is Everyone Hanging out Without Me? (And Other Concerns), endeared her even more to our hearts. And, now, her new sitcom, The Mindy Project, has the potential to be a funnier, more light-hearted, primetime derivative of Girls.

We’ll definitely be watching – will you?

get the look: allison williams at the 2012 emmy awards

Still a Hollywood newcomer, if you haven’t been watching the HBO breakout series Girls, you may not know who Allison Williams is — that is until she hit the Emmys red carpet last night. A cool, classic beauty with sophisticated edge, Allison turned heads last night in Oscar de la Renta, with flawlessly sweet and subtle makeup; a look created by celebrity makeup artist Julie Harris using all tarte products.

“Allison has such big gorgeous blue eyes that I wanted to accentuate them with a stronger eye and a softer lip,” Julie said of the look. But even if you don’t have show-stopping baby blues, you can still recreate this look at home for  ultra-flattering results.

real “girls” style

Girls is being hailed as the next generation’s Sex and the City – and one that’s a little more true to life than the gilded un-reality of Carrie Bradshaw’s gorgeous apartment packed with Manolos and Dior. That’s not to say, though, that we still can’t have fun chronicling each Girls girls’ style, from Marni’s perfectly-coiffed gallery girl to Jessa’s bohemian free spirit. Here are a few of our favorite outfits from the first season, along with ways to recreate the looks yourself. More >

girl crush: Allison Williams

The new show Girls has caught the fascination of men and women of all ages since it premiered this spring. This blogger, personally, is a fan – I love the realness of the girls’ relationships, both with their male counterparts and each other.

One of the best parts of watching the show has been discovering up-and-comer Allison Williams. Yes, she’s the daughter of newsman Brian Williams, but she’s turning out to be a star in her own right. She’s a multi-talented actress (did you see her hilarious turn as Kate Middleton on Funny or Die?) – and she’s got killer style.

Whether in a stunning hot pink gown or an amazing pair of sparkly trousers, Williams has consistently wow’ed us so far. (That amazing head of hair doesn’t hurt.) We’re looking forward to seeing what she does next!
