tarte’s wine week continues with today’s feature: whites! Can you think of anything more refreshing on a hot summer afternoon than a glass of chilled white wine? We sip this pale-hued vino in the colder months, too – especially when we’re munching on veggie dishes, pastas, or fish. Of course, if you’re prone to spillage (as we are), you know that white is the choice when light-colored clothing or drink-in-hand dancing might be involved.
Not all whites are created equal, however – they can range from clear, crisp, and grassy to golden, sweet, and rich. Below, a primer on a few of our favorite shades of white… and outfits to go with them all.
We’re celebrating wine week here at tarte! If you’ve ever a had sip — or spilled a glass — of any of the red variations of this delicious libation you probably know two things for sure: the flavors are often complex and tantalizing, and the color is distinct and intense. To kick off the celebration, we’ve broken down a few of our favorite varietals by taste and color.
Calling all current, former, and wanna-be ballerinas: if you haven’t caught the new dance drama that is Bunheads, you are seriously missing out. It’s got all the makings of a romance-cum-comedy-cum-drama, but with ballet… and a wise-cracking, shot-taking, plié-ing leading lady played by newcomer Sutton Foster. Dance shows and movies can be tricky, given the difficulty of finding someone who can both pas de bourrée and play a complicated character convincingly. But, with her Broadway background, Sutton has the dancing and acting chops for both — all the while rocking a cool California-girl look and, of course, making us laugh.
Sutton, we’re hooked.
We’ve always associated Kelly green with the preppy look– a look we love! Whether this connotation is due to the bright, yet clean, assertiveness of the shade, or those little Lacoste alligators resting easy on the fronts of their polo shirts, we don’t know — but a little research tells us that this color has moved beyond its prep-school connotations into the wider fashion realm. Some labels – like Rada – sprinkle it amongst their designs for a little preppy pop, while others infuse it with some downtown cool (like Madewell’s stretchy skirt.) Either way, it’s a classic.
