Wine Stain
It’s that time of year: holiday work parties, friendly gatherings and New Year’s toasts! We’re now penciling them into our December calendars and sorting through our wardrobes. This year there are even more sequins, lux velvets and faux furs to wear. In addition to adding some sparkle to your outfit, I always recommend statement makeup! With so many festive soirees to attend, I thought this would be the perfect time to share one of my favorite holiday looks. I’m loving this dark romantic look I came across in the December pages of Flare Magazine. Bold lip choices were huge for all of 2010, and this deep wine lip is a gorgeous way to finish off the year. I love that it’s paired with a soft and subtle smokey eye. This dark and romantic look is quite simple to recreate and super wearable from office to office party. Here’s a quick how-to:
- Hide those dark circles and even skin tone with your favorite complexion products (try: dark circle defense, smooth op tinted-moisturizer)
- Choose a neutral shadow and wash all over the eyelid (try: lock&roll 12-hr eye shadow in sandstone)
- Blend matte brown shadow into the crease of the eye and run along the bottom lash line (try: the royal collection holiday palette)
- Brighten inner eye corners and inner rims with a highlighter & nude liner (try: rest assured brightening wand)
- Curl and coat lashes (try: picture perfect holiday curler & lights, camera, lashes! 4-in-1 natural mascara)
- Finish with a deep berry lip tint (try: LipSurgence™ natural lip tint in moody; if lips are chapped from the winter air, prep with fRxtion lip exfoliator and balm)

Creme Scene
These past two weeks have been CRAZZZY for anyone wrapped up in this glamorous world we call the fashion/beauty industry. It started with Vogue’s retail extravaganza and Fashion’s Night Out! And Mercedes Benz New York Fashion week is coming to an end. The culmination of a season’s planning has finally come to fruition. I’m happy to report that I’m tossed in the mix of this wildness & I love it! (Check back later this week for a recap of Odd Molly’s spring collection where tarte is creating the look this evening)!
Amongst everything, I love to go back and look through all of the images of the shows and spot emerging trends. Surprisingly, thus far, I’ve seen a lot of neutrals and minimalism for the spring 2011 season (unlike punchy colors of the past). The color crème/ivory has been pretty prominent on the runway. I love the crisp elegance of the looks above (l-to-r: Dennis Basso, Ports 1961, and Reem Acra). What do you think? What would you love to see for spring 2011 and most importantly what trend would you love to never see again?!

Daytime Dare: DayGlo
Let me give you a little play-by-play of a recent shopping trip:
Lotion, face wash, one or 20 items from the latest GO!International venture, a 90-pack of gum and, oh what the heck, purple eyeliner.
I know, I know. That’s not necessarily a shopping cart full of necessities, but the day that I took a chance and went for color, rather than traditional black liner, changed my beauty destiny.
With just one swipe of plum eyeliner, I created a look that was funky and unexpected. Trips to my eyebrow waxer that used to begin with “Going for the Bert look, I see,” now always start with, “Amelia, I need that purple liner of yours!”
So, Tartelettes, what is stopping you from adding a lil’ pop of color to your daytime beauty routine? Instead of going back to black, show the dayglo! Try emphaseyes high definition eye pencil in green or plum for a subtle somethin’-somethin’. Or if you’re feeling extra racy- how about a swipe of turquoise eyeshadow courtesy of the boldly hued eyeQuaticcollection?
Paired with subtle cheeks and a neutral lip, your brights can go beyond night and into the workplace! Allure has a great step-by-step guide for getting purple lids worthy of royalty. Now go on, don’t be shy. Give color a try!
