Hi tartelettes (meet CB- tarte intern)

Hello beautiful tartelettes! I’m Charlotte, one of tarte’s marketing & PR interns as well as a freelance makeup artist for the line. I’m so happy to announce that I’ve been given the incredible opportunity to blog about all of my favorite things – clean eating, fun exercise, the gorgeous outdoors, fabulous fashion, and most importantly: amazing makeup! tarte’s high-performance natural™ products are staples in my professional kit as well as in my personal stash, and I hope that you gals enjoy them just as much!

I guess you can say that liquid lipstick runs through my veins. At age 20, my grandmother Marie moved from a tiny town nestled in the foothills of the Berkshires to NYC, which was a quite daring move in 1945. She soon found a job at a certain famed red door salon, working her way up from “treatment girl” to on-call makeup artist for numerous NYC socialites and celebrities. She later left the salon to freelance, painting the faces of Marilyn Monroe, famed 60s supermodel Verushka, and the Beatles, all whilst working on national campaigns for major cosmetic and hair companies. Her whirlwind career inspired me; from the time I was a young girl, I wanted to be a makeup artist. At age fifteen, I began working on editorial photo shoots in NYC, and I continue to update and improve my portfolio to this day.

What attracted me to tarte, at first, was their huge array of products that are not only pretty (both in the packaging and on the face!), but that they’re formulated without many harmful ingredients, such as parabens and phthalates. The fact that they’re vegan is also a major plus – as an animal-lover, it breaks my heart to think that many commercially-available cosmetics are tested on animals. tarte’s “green beauty” philosophy suits my lifestyle to a tee – and I hope you gorgeous girls feel the same way! I’m so happy to have the opportunity to be here and share my experience with you.

Peace, love, and health!

xoxo,

Charlotte

tarte™ for True Blood™ office party

Hey there tartelettes!

So after all the sweat and tears, we decided it was time to celebrate the
launch of our tarte™ for True Blood™ collection!

It was time for a True Blood-themed office party! We watched the season premiere, indulged in some southern food catered by the infamous Southern Hospitality and washed it all down with
bottles of Tru Blood™. From baby back ribs and cornbread to some southern style
macaroni and cheese, we partied Louisiana style. Since our friends Sookie,
Bill, Eric and Sam couldn’t attend we improvised with our own vampire teeth and
some O positive beverages.

So tell us, what are you mixing with your Tru Blood™?

When tarte met BabyCakes…

For those of you who have not already met, let me introduce you to BabyCakes, NYC’s (& LA’s!) most-celebrated vegan bakery. This fantastic sweet shop offers all your favorite treats from cupcakes and brownies, to their signature (must-try) cookie sandwiches. Although all of their organic goodies are free of gluten, wheat, soy, casein, egg and refined sugar, they certainly don’t taste like it! Yesterday we had an office birthday (Happy Birthday Kate!) and celebrate we did with a cake plate piled high with BabyCake’s cupcakes in the dreamiest of pastel colors (a la ‘The Umbrellas of Cherbourg). What’s sweeter than red velvet frosting? The fact that BabyCakes is just a 10 minute subway ride from our office (score!) Located in the super-hip lower east side at 248 Broome Street (between Orchard and Ludlow), it’s our ultimate snacking destination. Be sure to stop by if you happily find yourself in New York. Say goodbye to your prior notions of “crunchy granola” health food and hello to beautiful, colorful cookies and cupcakes that are impossible to resist!

Tell us what’s your favorite local bakery?

tarte’s Director of PR/ Resident Fashion Maven ‘SPILLS’ on what products are in her bag

JC: You’re a big runner/fitness buff.  What are your top three songs to get you going and keep you motivated?

CCB: From hip hop to pop, I’m constantly switching up my iPod! I’d have to say my top 3 picks are: Cinderella Man by Eminem, Midnight Show by The Killers and Kanye West’s Flashing Lights. For cool down there’s nothing better than a little Africa by Toto.

JC: Candace’s hair = Barbie. Spill the beans on how you keep your hair so healthy?

CCB: You’re too kind! First off, I have to thank my mom for genetics. She has super thick hair, too. While I don’t really want to admit it, I don’t wash my hair that often (maybe 2-3 times/week)! That’s one of my key secrets. I’m all about dry shampoo in between washes. I’ve tried them all—Oscar and Klorane are two of my favorites. As for styling products, I’m a big proponent of Moroccan oil. I’ve been using it for over 8 years. Also, I’m all about supplements. On a daily basis, I take a multi-vitamin and an Omega 3-6-9, which helps promote healthy hair.

JC: You live a green lifestyle and I know your metro card is an essential. Have any other earth-friendly recommendations for getting around this summer?

CCB: It sounds simple, but I put on my Havaianas and walk to work! If I’m visiting my parents or traveling for a weekend, I love riding a bike to get places.

JC: Page turning ‘Must- Read’ recommendation for the beach blanket?

CCB: That’s one of my favorite things about the summer—turning off the electronics and enjoying some lazy time reading a new book. Right now, I have “Water for Elephants” in my bag and I’m most certainly picking up Chelsea Handler’s latest book “Lies Chelsea Handler Told Me.”

JC: I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in the office without a fabulous pair of Jimmy Choos or Louboutins. Do you have a favorite style?

CCB: At 5’1”, I’m all about a platform heel! Those are my absolutely favorites. Over the summer, I’ll take a wedge heel any day and in the winter months there’s nothing like a boot that gives you the appearance of long legs (ahhh a girl can dream, right?)

JC: What’s your ‘desert island’ lip product and why?

CCB: Hmm…that’s a tough one! I swear you’ll find at least 5 variations of lip products in my bag and depending on my mood I’ll opt for pink, coral or red. If I had to pick one it would have to be our LipSurgence™ natural lip tints. I’m obsessed with these, especially amused paired with bronzed skin. Just gorgeous! Can’t go wrong with it!!

So tartelettes tell us……….what’s in your bag?

Jen

A tribute to Elizabeth Taylor

Hi tartelettes,

As I’m sure you know, last week beloved star and eternal icon Elizabeth Taylor passed away.  Throughout her career, Elizabeth Taylor was an inspiration to many with her class and grace. I personally loved her and everything she represented that two years ago I named my puppy after her.  From the moment she hit the big screen in the early ‘40s, the media was consumed with her. Whether it was her love life, movie career, jewelry or her amazing sense of style, the public wanted to know every detail of Elizabeth’s life.

We can all agree that Elizabeth Taylor was a fashion icon, but she also inspired several different beauty trends.  Did you know that she was born with two rows of eyelashes due to a genetic mutation?  I’d have to say that I wouldn’t mind inheriting that mutation! Her thick lashes and “violet” eyes became her signature trademark and were most certainly envied by all.  As for her personal beauty style, I think that she’ll be most remembered for her classic look: a glowing complexion, defined eyes and alluring red lips.

Elizabeth Taylor defined “Hollywood Glam” on the Red Carpet and stars still try to channel her looks today. In honor of Elizabeth Taylor, I’d like to celebrate some of her iconic beauty looks that will remain timeless. Which was your favorite? Share with us below.
