late-fall color inspiration: burgundy

Moody and romantic colors abound during this darkening season. One of our favorites is burgundy, whether in the form of a decorative accessory, a bold lip, or assertive shoe.

Tilly’s Full Tilt faux leather jacket; our LipSurgence™ lip tint in moody; Skullcandy’s Agent Alabama headphones;  Leighton Milan umbrella; Lipault Paris carry-on; Gucci mary janes; and the Voluspa Classic Candle in Muscari.

in praise of the pumpkin…

It’s pumpkin season tartelettes! And while you’re indulging in pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin muffins, seeds and jack-o’-lanterns, take a moment to reflect on not just how tasty this gourd-like squash is, but it’s good-for-you qualities as well.  Here, our (healthy) top five reasons to love pumpkin: More >

very handy: warm tweeds and cool nudes

It’s official, it’s September, Fashion Week is over and earth tones are back on the trend menue. That’s why we had to take a snapshot of our digital marketing manager’s chic nude nail polish. Jenna boldly paired this über fall hue, lady like by essie, with a stunning pair of tweed trousers making us long for autumn. Plus that  splash of sparkle on her ring finger makes this is one near-perfect mani!  Hey, why the ring finger Jenna? Wishing and hoping…?

fall movie preview

Fall is coming tartelettes! That means sweaters and scarves, the return of all things pumpkin flavored, cool temperatures and a full roster of scary movies to gear us up for Halloween. What better excuse to cuddle up to your guy than a movie jam-packed with creaky doors and eerie shadows?

Not a fan of fright flicks? James Bond returns in November and there’s a host of comedies premiering this fall, too. Just make sure to apply your lights, camera, splashes!™ mascara to guard against runs when you start laughing so hard you cry.

Stay Slim and Healthy This Fall

Hi tartelettes!

Fall has arrived and with it comes a host of tasty temptations — but keeping fit and indulging in the party season aren’t mutually exclusive. Follow these simple steps and you’ll be rocking a svelte figure straight on through the New Year.

Avoid fall comfort food: Fall baking is oh-so-delicious and oh-so-calorie packed.  Instead of using traditional recipes Google healthy options for favorites like banana bread or butternut squash soup.

Resist hibernation: It’s easier to become less active as it gets darker earlier. Try joining a gym, or sign up for a workout class with a friend to maintain motivation.

Party Smart: Awesome holiday parties mean alcoholic drinks galore — and those can add some serious numbers to your caloric intake. Limit drinks or opt for water to stay hydrated and keep from adding on pounds.

Curtail the Candy: Stop stealing candy out of your children’s or younger brother or sister’s trick or treat bags…you didn’t earn it and you sure don’t need it. Sweets can derail any plans for healthy eating. Instead, indulge in healthy snacks like popcorn or dark chocolate covered fruits.

Fall Fashion Must-Have: The Perfect Boot

Autumn is right around the corner, and we’re busy making room in our closets for our favorite fall fashions – including the undisputed staple of the season: the perfect pair of boots. Here are a few of my favorites styles for fall, styles that will be sure to have others following in your footsteps!

How are you keeping your feet warm and stylish this season?

Jen’s Pick: SAAKO Scarves

Hey tartelettes,

Jen here, introducing my new column Jen’s Pick, where I’ll be sharing eco-friendly must-haves that I just can’t keep to myself!

The Details: SAAKO Scarves. Handmade in Barcelona, these incredible pieces are edgy, trendy and currently at the top of my fall fashion accessory list.

The Low Down: Design geniuses Ines Brito and Joana Gouveia began experimenting with jersey in 1989, turning the material into trendy neckwear. With ‘reuse’ as their creative philosophy, they produced earthy and vibrant scarves from recycled fabrics.

What’s to Love: SAAKO scarves are extremely comfortable, affordable, and add a bohemian edge to any look, making them a fantastic year-round addition to your closet. Plus, they also make great gifts!

Don’t keep it to yourself! Share any eco-stylish designers or products you can’t go without on our Facebook or twitter page.

Jen

Fall Harvest

The Big City. Yankees vs. Red Sox. The Atlantic Coastline. The Northeast is known for a lot of things, but one of the most beautiful is our fall foliage.  The changing leaves and mountain landscapes are reason enough to escape the city for a weekend. This time of year the tri-state area also boasts a slew of amazing orchards and vineyards. Apple and pumpkin picking, hayrides, corn mazes, haunted houses, cider and wine tasting; from September-November these seasonal destinations  promise the perfect weekend afternoon.

Confused on where to go? Fret not my friend. I have compiled a short list of kid and adult-friendly hotspots; all of them are favorites of the staff here at tarte. So, this weekend rent a car or hop on the transit lines for an urban escape. Don’t live in the area? Or, did  I miss one of your family favorites? Please share some details in our comments box, we’d love to hear from you.

Trend Alert!

New York city shoppers are actually itching NOT to shop! Yes it’s true. This little bed bug epidemic happening at some of my favorite retailers is actually keeping my wallet padded in what would typically be my favorite season to splurge. Thanks to cyber space, I can still turn to my favorite sites and celebs for a little inspiration on what’s new & noteworthy this fall.

When I think of tribal, I typically think of summer ikat prints,  fab shoes & satchels. Well, that has changed this season. Knowing that one of my favorite effortless fashionistas, Blake Lively, recently stocked up on natural cheek stain in sunkissed; I took some time to check up on her September wardrobe choices as she promotes her new flick, The Town.  My fave…this fully beaded Marchesa tribal mini dress. The vibrant yellow and sapphire are nothing short of amazing and when it comes to fashion, Blake is spot-on. Tribal for cocktail hour? If it looks anything like this then yes, please!

Blake’s not the only trendsetter. My favorite downtown retailer, LF, just released their fall look book and it seems they too are feeling the tribal vibe for fall. The relaxed, hooded cardigan from their shoot is on the right. I’m loving the muted rustic colors for fall & their twist on a Navajo blanket. NY is a bit cold for shorts; so I would pair this with my favorite skinnies, a House of Harlow 1960 tribal cuff & Blake’s beauty secrets ;)
