One of our favorite rock & roll divas, Kim Schifino (the female half of the indie dance duo Matt & Kim) is a fearless, stylish and hilarious tartelette! Check out #MKrealtalk to see what we mean. She also lives by a cruelty-free philosophy, so when it came time to plan Matt & Kim’s Fall 2012 Lightning Tour, the duo arranged to host that city’s no-kill animal shelter in the concert venue’s lobby. This gave concert-goers the opportunity to learn how they can help keep their community a no-kill area. We’re very proud to call her a tartelette — but not too proud to snoop through her holiday gift list!
The 22 year-old New Zealander may not be a household name, but if you caught the Gotye bug this summer, you’ve definitely heard her sing — yes, she’s the other voice on ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’. More >

Love her music or hate it, there’s no arguing that, in the short time she’s been on the scene, Lana Del Rey has made quite the splash. Since her web debut last summer, the girl has already performed on Saturday Night Live, appeared on the cover of Vogue UK, won multiple “best new artist” awards, and sparked a lot of conversations.
This blogger happens to find her songs equal parts sultry, sticky (try getting “Video Games” out of your head), and addictive. Del Rey’s stuff is like sugary cereal: there’s not much to it, but it tastes good. And her sartorial style’s refreshing, too: amidst a pop music scene dominated by the outlandishness of Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry, the self-described “gangster Nancy Sinatra” stands out by looking bad-ass and polished at the same time. Del Rey’s style is a combination of old-school glamour (winged eye liner, lady-like dresses), major bombshell appeal, rock star edge (tats and gold rings) – and the occasional quirky sneaker thrown in for good measure.
This unapologetic mix of style, attitude and saccharine makes the up-and-coming songstress our girl crush of the day. Who’s your girl crush?
Summers coming ladies and we’ve put together some hot beats to get your blood pumping for an amazing work out! We jacked the iPods from some of the tartelettes here in the office and created the ultimate fitness playlist.

Having just wrapped, it’s safe to say that South by Southwest is definitely one of the cooler festivals of the year. It was a fascinating mix of underground bands, independent film, and up-and-coming techies – basically, the movers and shakers everyone’s going to be talking about next year.
The fashion at SXSW was, of course, equally cool, and it was nice to see our favorite stars dressed down. We spotted some fashionable women running around the festival sporting effortless Austin chic.
Camilla Alves cozied up with fiancé Matthew McConaughey at the premiere of Bernie, McConaughey’s upcoming film. She hit two trends in one: sheer lace and candy-colored jeans.
Jenna Dewan-Tatum was all grins with hubby Channing at an event for 21 Jump Street. Her adorable rhinestone-studded red shift makes us smile, too.
Sheryl Crow beat the heat in a simple strapless black dress.
Minnie Driver looked smokin’ in a hot red sheath.
Gabrielle Union was Texas-desert-ready in her khaki romper – paired with a glam statement necklace, of course.
And our favorite look of the week goes to actress Kristen Connolly, who rocked the red carpet in this fun and flattering floral-print dress.
Here they are, tartelettes, my weekly new music picks! So download, plug in and start your weekend right!
Animal Kingdom, “Strange Attractor”
Three man band Animal Kingdom took a while to grow on me but after I heard this song I was hooked. This track is currently on repeat in my car — I’m obsessed with the song’s unique, mellow sound.
Walk The Moon, “Anna Sun”
Walk the Moon is an indie-rock band based in Cincinnati, OH. and while I love the whole album, this song is just plain awesome. Haven’t downloaded it yet> Then I feel bad for your iPod. If you really loved your iPod, you would add it.
The Black Keys , “Gold On The Ceiling”
If you keep up with my playlists, you already know I love the Black Keys, and you should too because, very simply, they rock. The guitar sound is incendiary (I totally stole that line from Almost Famous) but really, they just straight up rock.
The Shins , “Simple Song”
I first heard the Shins on the Garden State soundtrack — it was love at first listen. This innovative band continues to release fresh, uplifting music that just makes you feel good, kinda like puppies or red, white, and blue ice pops.
Sleigh Bells, “Rill Rill”
Based in Brooklyn, dynamic duo Derek Edward Miller and Alexis Krauss have awesome chemistry and an artsy, kick a** sound. Download this track…..like now!
Was Valentine’s Day really only two days ago? We hope the love birds among us had a blast, but for the rest of you, here’s a playlist to cuddle with. So crank up the volume and carry on…..love stinks anyway!
1. Justin Timberlake, “Cry Me A River”
2. Carly Simon, “You’re So Vain”
3. Beyonce, “Single Ladies”
4. Billy Idol, “Dancing With Myself”
5. J. Geils Band, “Love Stinks”
Looking for some peppy love songs to amp you up for Valentine’s Day? These sweet tunes range from indie to poppy, and will definitely get you in the mood for some upbeat lovin’!
1. Cake, “Love You Madly”
2. The Cardigans, “Lovefool”
3. David Grey, “This Year’s Love”
4. Selena Gomez, “Love You Like A Love Song”
5. John Mayer, “Your Body Is A Wonderland”
My top five favorite new tunes for a wintry weekend. Trust me, all your friends have these jams already. Don’t be the last to know, download these now!
1. Cage the Elephant, “Aberdeen”
From Bowling Green, Kentucky; these southern boys have made a name for themselves through high energy live performances and amazing lyrics — making them a huge hit in the U.S. and U.K.
2. The Wombats, “Jump into The Fog”
While they have a completely different sound than The Beatles, the two bands share the same home, Liverpool, and man, do they know how to rock. The Wombats have that awesome British feel to them that we all know and love. Want to indulge in some musical Anglophilia? Just plug in the headphones and turn it up.
3. M83, “Midnight City”
M83 is the brainchild of French musician Anthony Gonzalez. With a unique sound, M83 never disappoints. This is my go-to workout song when I’m feeling lazy and blah..it really gets my blood pumping!
4. Imperial Teen,“Runaway”
Having provided the soundtrack to the infamous and iconic scene of four teen beauties — the original mean girls — walking down their high school hallway in 1999’s twisted comedy Jawbreaker, Imperial Teen may be a throwback, but well worth a second glance. I’m thrilled that they are making such a strong impact. Check ‘em out!
5. The Naked and Famous, “Girls like you”
Who doesn’t love an import from Down Under?? The Naked and Famous is a New Zealand indie rock band from Auckland. Do yourself a favor and download them now. These guys are an incendiary force to be reckoned with.
