Flowers for Mom

So as the saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers”…right? No! It has been pouring in Manhattan for six days straight and my Wellies desperately need to be retired for the season. That being said, this Mother’s Day weekend a good majority of us will be purchasing beautiful blooms for our dear moms. My family has run a florist since the 70’s so I happen to know a bit more than average when it comes to choosing the perfect stems. And yes, the flower trends do change so let’s avoid gifting lilies with a few easy tips!

1.A bouquet of roses is beautiful that’s a given, but instead go for an arrangement with variety, personality and fun spring colors.

2. Steer clear of stems that feel dated—mums, daisies, lilies…need I say more. Pick fun blooms that come in beautiful hues. Try hydrangea (they’re bulky so less is more), peonies and ranunculus.
3. If you still feel the pull towards purchasing daisies then scratch an arrangement all together! Instead snag the trendy marc jacobs daisy perfume. It’s light, summery and perfect for any mom. Plus I think it actually smells like gardenias!

The Mother of all Makeovers

As a disclaimer, first let me say that I absolutely adore my mom. She is hilarious, smart, Southern belle sweet, and so gorgeous she can barely go five feet without a man hitting on her. I swear the woman has never taken a bad picture a day in her life. Buttt, she’s also never taken a picture sans matte, red lipstick. And I’m not talking about the chic rouge lip that is so “Fine in ’09.” Nope, uh-uh, this is more like “Dynasty in ’83.” Sorry, Mama!
Well, if your mom is anything like mine- beautiful, fun, overall just your favorite person in the world, but completely stuck in a make-up time-warp, this Mother’s Day help her get back to the future tarte-style.

The four-piece Lip Couture set is the perfect gift for a lipstick-challenged mother like mine. It comes with a quartet of colors ranging from a totally now nude to a more recent red. And true to tarte form, the quilted purple packaging is pure chic-y goodness.

If mommy dearest has been a “maniac, maniac…” for 80s-eque eyeshadow since the Flashdance days, tarte has two solutions for you. The Spring Greening palette, a set of six vibrant lid hues and three pretty lipglosses, is a great way for her to transition into 21st-century eye color. With eyeshadow names like vibrant teal and golden lime, you can even trick her into thinking that she wasn’t completely off the mark with her dated make-up. The second peepers’ palette is the sleek and sophisticated Eye Couture, which has ten eyeshadow hues ranging from pretty pale pink to chic charcoal. Aw, Mama’s first smoky eye!

For the mom whose idea of make-up is a few swipes of cherry Chapstick and clear mascara (I mean, honestly, what is the point?), tarte’s Be Good to Your Mother (earth) is the perfect present. The set comes with a cute trio of lip sheers with SPF 15 and an adorable tote in signature tarte purple, so she can be granola-chic while hauling her soymilk and veggie burgers.

Bonus time! For purchases of $30 or more, tarte is offering free shipping.
Sunday is quickly approaching, but thankfully for you, tarte has all of the au naturale answers for your Mother’s Day queries.

The Purple One

Though I absolutely adore He of ruffled blouses, four-inch heels and perfectly coifed hair, this post is about beauty, not “The Beautiful One.” Sorry, Prince!
I bought Tarte’s Vanity Palette back in December and instantly fell in love with the little purple tube of Lights, Camera, Lashes! mascara. Since the day mama okay-ed make-up, I have been a total mascara player- flitting from one wand to another with no indication of settling down. Clinique’s Long Pretty Lashes? Wore it! Maybelline’s Great Lash ? Why, of course! Bare Escentuals Big Tease? Well, duh, the name speaks for itself.

I have spent too many years being the Karen Smith of mascara. You know, the first-cousin kissing, as stupid as she is slutty Mean Girl. Well, I am finally ready to give my heart to just one. Yep, you guessed it- Lights, Camera, Lashes! It’s dark and sultry, but leaves my lashes soft and flirty. That sounds like soulmate material to me. And the fact that the main ingredients are length, volume, curl and conditioning, not sulfates, parabens, dyes and fragrance is music to a contact-wearers’ ears…and eyes?

But don’t just take my word for it. Sephora.com boasts a whole slew of LCL fanatics. Prettygirl2990 proclaims that with The Purple One her “lash prayers were answered.”
And for just $18, you too can be lash-tastic!

Wednesday with Maurey!

Happy New Year everyone! I’m very excited because today I’m getting a visit from our fabulous board member (and my friend) Maurey, who I haven’t seen in almost 3 years. She’s going to stop by tarte HQ for a visit with everyone and then we get to have a nice catch-up dinner. Of course, it’ll be 16 degrees tonight, but I’m excited nonetheless. We’re both eagerly awaiting the day tarte expands to London, so I can visit her for a change. (Plus, I never pass up the opportunity to be in London!) -Alexis

Blizzard 07

So for the past 2 days on the news here in NYC it’s been nothing but coverage on the blizzard that’s about to hit us. I was skeptical that it would even happen but as Maria and I made our coffee run this morning we were pelted with chunks of hail. Now it’s snowing like crazy! If I was still in school I’d be hoping for a snow day and then spend the day sledding and drinking hot cocoa! Maybe the tarte girls will have an impromptu sledding break today?! -Erica

Memorial Day Tidings

~Happy Memorial Day Weekend! -xoxo the tartelettes

december 2006

~On Wednesday night we had our annual tarte holiday party hosted by Maureen. It was an amazing time as always, this year we had a wine & cheese tasting theme with a cheese expert. Alexis (cheese-aholic) was in heaven and showed off all her amazing cheese knowledge and everyone else learned a lot and enjoyed themselves. Maureen and her husband Scott cooked an amazing dinner that everyone couldn’t stop raving about, followed by desserts galore! We really need to make this party a monthly event instead ofjust once a year.-erica

~We’re celebrating here at tarte—seal the deal (our lip sealant & supergloss duo) won a Redbook MVP Beauty Award!! This morning Maureen and I attended the magazine’s Third Annual MVP Beauty Awards breakfast at the Bryant Park Grill in NYC. It was so pretty and festive (and the food was delish)! Not to mention, there were so many fun beauty, skincare and haircare companies that were honored! From Dr. Brandt to Oscar Blandi, there were a lot of beauty gurus in the house! If you check out the December issue of the mag you can see all of the winners!-candace

~This past Friday the tarte team had the amazing oppurtunity to be a part of a Habitat for Humanity build. Along with a donation we decided to actually go and help out. We joined the QVC beauty team up in Coatsville, PA where Habitat was is in the process of rebuilding a community and creating some amazing homes for very deserving families! There was a lot of painting, sanding, hammering and Maureen was even hanging drywall! We had a great day and hopefully we’ll continue to be apart of this great cause. -erica

~Spring is here—Yay! However, I have nothing fun to wear. I think April and May are by far the most difficult months for clothes. Maybe, I think that because I desperately need a spring jacket—perhaps it’s time I buy that

Burberry, sexy trench I’ve been eyeing. I’d also like to buy some cute lightweight tops. C&C and Juicy never let me down! While I’m at it, I really want these Dita Aviator Sunglasses! -candace

~I just have to show off the cupcakes Maria & I made for Alexis’ birthday last week! They are cookie monster cupcakes since he’s Alexis’ favorite muppet! I think they came out awesome and Alexis loved them! Maybe Maria & I should go into the cupcake business? -erica

~I just have a random funny story; My roommates bf was on a plane back from Florida and the group Three 6 Mafia (The 2006 Academy Award winners for Best Song, “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp”) ended up sitting across from him. The funny thing was they were carrying around their Oscar with them! And when the plane was getting ready for take off they wrapped the Oscar up and put it in an LV bag… that’s some great carry on luggage! haha -erica

~MARCH MADNESS: This weekend was all about Syracuse basketball!! SU became the first team in BIG EAST history to win 4 games on the way to the tournament championship. It started with senior guard Gerry McNamara’s last-second 3-pointer to beat Cincinnati, then a 2 point overtime upset win over UCONN, a 1 point nail-biting victory over Georgetown and the championship win against Pitt. All very, very close games!! Gerry (also known as GMAC) was just unstoppable! And to think the local media said, “McNamara was overrated. The fifth-seeded team will play Texas A&M on Thursday—GO ORANGE!!!! -canDANCE

~It’s still bordering on freezing in NY, but at least Spring is right around the corner! And with that comes spring cleaning – something I’ve never been very good at. I always start out on an adrenaline rush thinking that I’m going to scrub every inch and make everything spotless…then 45 minutes into it I realize I haven’t made a dent, get dejected and go eat some ice cream. It happens every time! Luckily I found this article in

Good Housekeeping that will streamline my spring cleaning…but I’ll probably still top it off with some ice cream! -maria

~Ok, I need to talk about the Oscars. First off, I’m a huge Jon Stewart fan and I think he did a great job! At first he seemed a tad bit timid, but he definitely pulled through (it’s a tough crowd to begin with). And how funny are Steve Carell and Will Ferrell?! I loved their make-up skit. Next, the actual awards…this is the first year that all my guesses for best actor/actress and best supporting actor/actress came true! I was really excited and I saw almost every movie. What I do think is odd is that none of these actors/actresses were in the best movie or in the movie by the best director. Um, and Three 6 Mafia…I’m still speechless. Lastly, let’s talk about fashion!!! Ladies that I thought looked great—Reese’s glam look and Felicity’s daring Zac Posen debut! I really liked Hilary Swank’s and Jennifer Anniston’s dresses (simple, yet classic). And let’s face it—George Clooney really stole the show this year. -candace
