Hidden inland off the Brazilian coastline is a natural sanctuary where we find the next generation of our iconic ingredient: colored clay. The sprawling oasis lies in the mountainous regions, virtually untouched by agriculture, industry or populous civilizations, making it the optimal environment for the cultivation and preservation of unaltered, nutrient-rich clays.
For millions of years, these clays have been forming beneath the surface as rare elements react to infuse the sediment with natural minerals like iron, manganese and titanium. As these elements oxidize and stabilize over time, the clay takes on a rich, natural coloring dependent on its distinct mineral composition.
Each colored clay contains unique minerals and provides specific cosmetic benefits to the skin – from anti-aging and hydration to oil control and anti-inflammatory properties.
To harness these powers, our eco-certified team sustainably harvests the clays through a selective process that respects and maintains the integrity of the region while preserving the purity of the ingredient.
Once the clay is harvested, it is naturally baked by the sun so that it can be shaved into a fine powder and infused in tarte colored clay products.
