The moment Connie Britton appeared on-screen in Friday Night Lights, she walked straight into our hearts. (And if you haven’t seen this show, tartelettes, then run – don’t walk – to your nearest Netflix subscription and devour the whole delicious, feel-good series at once.) As Tami Taylor, Connie played the type of woman we always aspired to be: whip-smart, funny, graceful, and – above all – one that never took any crap from anyone. (And that hair!) So, imagine our pleasure in discovering that Connie herself is as charming and feisty as the woman she played on the silver screen.
Now, she’s back in another Southern-inflected role in Nashville, a show that focused on the drama of a different intense world far from football – country music. We’ll be watching and rooting on our favorite sassy gal! Will you?
Move over, Deschanel, there’s a new Zoe in town. This one’s got that quirky charm, major hipster cuteness, and big, blue eyes – and she’s also got serious acting and writing chops. tartelettes, if you haven’t heard of her, meet Zoe Kazan: playwright, Broadway star, actress, and all-around talented lady. Now, with the debut of her film Ruby Sparks – in which she stars alongside real-life Brooklyn-based boyfriend, Paul Dano – she can now add screenwriter to her list of entertainment-world accomplishments. Let’s say you wake up tomorrow and it’s 1985 — arguably one of the best years in recent American history: the fashion scene had finally shaken off the shagginess of the ’70s, Wall St. still seemed heroic, music hadn’t shattered in to a million genres and subgenres, and John Hughes was still making movies. Now take a moment and think about your 1985 self. Who’s magazine cover would you leave on the nightstand for style inspiration, Booke Shields’ or Christie Brinkley’s? More >
Very few actresses will ever star on a hit TV show, very few actresses will ever work on possibly one of the greatest drama series of all time, fewer still will be revered at both the Emmys and Comic Con, or threaten Joe McHale with paintballs…twice. More >
Calling all current, former, and wanna-be ballerinas: if you haven’t caught the new dance drama that is Bunheads, you are seriously missing out. It’s got all the makings of a romance-cum-comedy-cum-drama, but with ballet… and a wise-cracking, shot-taking, plié-ing leading lady played by newcomer Sutton Foster. Dance shows and movies can be tricky, given the difficulty of finding someone who can both pas de bourrée and play a complicated character convincingly. But, with her Broadway background, Sutton has the dancing and acting chops for both — all the while rocking a cool California-girl look and, of course, making us laugh.
Sutton, we’re hooked.
We quickly found out: a poised starlet who can hold her own in films both artsy (Tree of Life) and mass-market (The Help) – and whose versatile, romantic style literally makes us weak in the knees. All that together make her oh-so crush worthy.
Who’s your girl crush?
With famous pops Eric and ultra-famous aunt Julia, some might say that Emma Roberts was born to be a Hollywood star. Maybe, but one thing we know for sure is that this girl has talent, poise and style. Sweet faced and wholesome, she seems like the type of girl we’d be friends with, she also possesses a subtle yet playful fashion sense and some serious acting chops, making her our girl crush of the day.
The new show Girls has caught the fascination of men and women of all ages since it premiered this spring. This blogger, personally, is a fan – I love the realness of the girls’ relationships, both with their male counterparts and each other.
One of the best parts of watching the show has been discovering up-and-comer Allison Williams. Yes, she’s the daughter of newsman Brian Williams, but she’s turning out to be a star in her own right. She’s a multi-talented actress (did you see her hilarious turn as Kate Middleton on Funny or Die?) – and she’s got killer style.
Whether in a stunning hot pink gown or an amazing pair of sparkly trousers, Williams has consistently wow’ed us so far. (That amazing head of hair doesn’t hurt.) We’re looking forward to seeing what she does next!
We’re not going to lie: when we were growing up, we drew most of our fashion inspiration from a mischief-making pair of girls who went by the singular title of “Mary-Kate and Ashley.” Even now, we still find ourselves seeking out the latest photo shoots and interviews of the stylish duo to find out what we should be wearing. So, when younger sister Elizabeth appeared on the Hollywood scene last year, we thought, “Poor girl! Who could stand out from the long shadow of MK&A?”
We needn’t have worried. Little Lizzie has proven to be a full-blown actress and style maven in her own right. With her ability to rock both vintage glam and hipster cool, she’s our new favorite girl crush.
