Meet the Pro: Bret Boreman

Makeup artist Bret Boreman with celebrity client Maria Menounos

Celebrity makeup artist Bret Boreman has been perfecting the beauty of women for over eighteen years. Known for creating flawless and fresh looks, he’s worked with famous faces like Minka Kelly, Sienna Miller, Cindy Crawford and Betty White. We got the opportunity to grill the makeup legend on everything from what’s on his iPod to his favorite tarte product.

What fall/winter makeup trend are you looking forward to recreating?

I am most excited that lip color is finally making a huge come back! Love a defined liner on the eyes and a bold burgundy or orange lip color on the lips.

What’s your beauty secret weapon?

A smile and a great attitude.

Who are some of your celeb clients?

Rachael Taylor, Minka Kelly, and Maria Menounos to name a few.

Favorite tarte product?

I am obsessed with the tarte Amazonian clay 12-hour blush. The colors are beautiful and melt into the skin.

Guilty pleasure?

Eating ice cream while taking a bubble bath.

If you weren’t a makeup artist…

I would want to be “America’s Next Top Model” or a veterinarian.

Currently playing on your iPod?

Michael Bublé

Who are you itching to work with?

I am already working with  three of the most beautiful women in the world while working on Charlie’s Angels…so I feel pretty lucky already.

Latest splurge…?

A pair of Burberry rain boots.

Hello, MollySims.com!

There are a lot of things we’ve always loved about Molly Sims: her eclectic and effortlessly chic style, her open and honest approach to beauty, the fact that she’s a dedicated humanitarian, a bona fide southern belle, and just an all-around lovely person.

Oh, yeah, and she’s a huge tarte fan.

Now we have one more thing to add to the What We Love About Molly list: A few weeks ago, Molly launched MollySims.com. It’s an amazing site that offers fashion tips, beauty advice, and Molly’s insights on life, style, fitness, and well, everything else under the sun. Plus, the site has an interactive online community where users can chat and share with each other.

The icing on this amazing cyber cake? MollySims.com’s first Product Worship post was on our smooth operator™ tinted moisturizer!  Thanks, Molly!

Make sure to check out the site — your skin will thank you for it!

Style Inspiration: Camilla Belle in exposed

Lovely and ethereal, Camilla Belle never makes a beauty faux pas—so we were absolutely thrilled when she was spotted wearing our LipSurgence matte lip tint in exposed.

We got the chance to chat with celeb makeup artist Brett Freedman, the man behind Camilla’s flawless look, and asked him to explain what inspired the look.

“Since the eyes were the focal point I wanted Camilla’s lips to be fleshy; understated yet have enough pop not to look low watt,” said Freedman. “I’m a big fan of tarte’s matte pencils because they go on so smooth and give lips a fresh, modern look.”

We love the iridescent eyeshadow paired with the subtle and feminine hue of the lip. This look truly embodies classic beauty with a modern edge.

What do you love about this look? Will you try it out yourself?

Celebrity Halloween Costume Roundup 2011

I

It’s no secret that Halloween is one of our favorite holidays here at tarte! Not only do we indulge in sweets and costumes, but we love to see celebs getting into the spooky spirit too. Here are our favorite celebrity Halloween costumes of 2011.

Left to right: Liv Tyler as Cat Woman, Kim Kardashian as Poison Ivy, Holly Madison as Rapunzel, Heidi Klum as a living biology lesson, and below is Debra Messing in Day of the Dead makeup.

Style Envy: Emily Blunt’s Modern Chic

We love our Brits: the attitude, the accents, the style! Take Emily Blunt for instance, she not only has amazing cheekbones but a fantastic fashion sense as well. Emily always looks put together and her classic, yet modern wardrobe makes her this week’s style star. Perhaps she picked up a few style tips while on the set of The Devil Wears Prada — but I have a hunch she was just born chic!

Absolutely adorable, fashionably fearless, we tip our trendy caps to you Emily.

Cheerio tartelettes!

Style Envy: Liv Tyler’s Classic Look

For a girl who says style isn’t one of her priorities, she definitely sports some stunning outfits. Then again, working with Rachel Zoe to update your wardrobe can’t hurt.

The daughter of rocker Steven Tyler and model Bebe Buell, Liv Tyler has spent most of her life in the spotlight, and over the years has transformed her usually low-key style to a more sleekly classic wardrobe — making her a full-force fashionista. And I might add, she’s looking more lean and fit than ever. Perhaps her more conservative style will eventually rub off on her parents.

Five stars for Liv Tyler. Rock on!

Love Liv’s perma-rosy cheeks? You can recreate the look with our Amazonia clay 12-hour blush in dollface, then finish off with a dab of  our LipSurgence™ lip luster lip tint in adored.

Jen’s Pick: Pumpkin Body Mask

Fall is here and pumpkin is back on the menu! And while nothing beats a skinny pumpkin latte, this season try some pumpkin on your body — not just in it.

It’s no secret that stars like Audrina Patridge have been known to favor natural ingredients in their beauty potions. Packed with vitamins  A, C, and zinc,  pumpkin is the perfect gift from nature to  achieve a radiant complexion for fall. And the best part, I’ve got on the info you need to whip up an incredible mask DIY-style in your kitchen. Audrina, if you’re reading, this treat is for you!

October Pumpkin Body Mask

2 cups canned pumpkin

4 tablespoons Greek yogurt

4 tablespoons honey

1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

Mix together the ingredients and apply to face for 10 minutes. Once set, remove with a warm face cloth and let your skin shine on.

Style Envy: Gwen Stefani’s Fall Look

She may just be the most stylish mom ever to set foot on a playground, and we’re pretty sure she rocks at bedtime lullabies — Gwen Stefani is our style star pick of the week.  When she’s not running around with her kids or toping the music charts, she’s got her trendy sleeves rolled up while she designs clothes, handbags and shoes for her label L.A.M.B. Her style is strategically fierce, and despite being a California native, she’s got fall fashion down to a science. She can rock a plaid skirt, a leather jacket, high boots and red lipstick making her one hot mama.

Tip of the fedora to you Gwen!

2 Broke Girls and a Lot of envy

Smart and snarky, we’ve loved Kat Dennings since the moment she stole the spotlight from Samantha on Sex and the City; then she convinced us that Michael Cera was swoon-worthy in Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and we were psyched when we found out she’d scored her own show: 2 Broke Girls.  So just imagine how exited we were to learn that she loves us back.

We recently heard from 2 Broke Girls makeup artist Patty Bunch that Kat is a huge fan of tarte and uses our LipSurgence™ matte lip tint on and off set.

“I’ve received so many calls and e-mails on what lipstick I’m using on Kat Dennings on “2 Broke Girls,” Patty told us in an email. The answer: our matte lip tint in envy!

So, if you’ve ever wondered what our matte shades look like on, just tune into Kat’s hysterical sitcom every Monday night at 8:30pm EST on CBS to see them in action. And pick up some envy today!

Get Kristin Bauer’s Look

As vampy vixen Pam on the show, Kristin Bauer looked every bit her character when she stepped in to Sephora 5 Times Square for our Fashion’s Night Out event last Thursday. It was a look to die for, with sparkling crimson lips, a just-bitten flush, and smoldering vixen eyes thanks to the tarte™ for True Blood™ collection.

Once we saw Kristin, we knew we would be recreating the look on ourselves at home, so we asked tarte makeup artist Tony Ballard to share  how he achieved Kristin’s vampy glam:

Overall Inspiration: “I was inspired by Kristin’s True Blood® character Pam – I wanted her to be sassy, but still classic with a strong red lip.”

complexion & cheeks

-Tony smoothed Kristin’s complexion with tarte’s smooth operator™ tinted moisturizer in agent 12.

-Then he dabbed the tarte™ for True Blood™cheek stain on the apples of her cheeks and topped it off with tarte’s Amazonian clay shimmering powder in rose for instant radiance and subtle sheen.

-He set her complexion with tarte’s smooth operator™ Amazonian clay finishing powder.

eyes

-From the tarte™ for True Blood™ palette, he applied a soft wash of “the light,” a shimmering warm ivory over the entire lid, and then highlighted Kristin’s crease with “dusk,” a matte warm taupe.

-For extra drama to celebrate the evening, he used tarte’s multiplEYE™ lash enhancing liquid liner in black along her upper lash line.

-He then coated her top and bottom lashes with tarte’s gifted Amazonian clay smart mascara.

lips

-To complete Kristin’s look, Tony used tarte’s LipSurgence™ matte lip tint in fiery, a matte red, on her sexy pout.

Are you daring enough to try this look yourself? Show us! Post pictures of your vampy vixen self on our Facebook page.
