Tina Turnbow: Celebrity makeup artist & green beauty expert

We’re so thrilled about our new eco-friendly spring 2010 collaboration with celebrity makeup artist and green beauty expert Tina Turnbow. Together Maureen and Tina developed tarte’s flower child collection—an eyeshadow palette and cheek stain inspired by nature and all earthly elements.

With over 11 years of experience, Tina has created beautiful looks for celebrities such as Joan Allen, Claire Danes, Vera Farmiga, Ellen Page, Mary-Louise Parker, Amanda Peet, Jessica Szohr, Keri Russell and Ivanka Trump to name a few. Tina’s been featured in national media like Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar, InStyle, Marie Claire, Shape, Nylon and has collaborated with a wide range of fashion photographers including Gilles Bensimon, Arthur Elgort and Raymond Meier. She’s also a usual suspect working at premiers and award shows like the Golden Globes (check out the look she did for Vera) and Emmy’s, as well as serving as the lead artist during Fashion Week.

Whether she’s power walking with her dogs, cooking a healthy meal or scouring Manhattan for the latest eco-friendly beauty product, Tina is always encouraging women “to be aware of what they put on their faces: your skin is your biggest organ!” And we couldn’t agree more!!

NYFW Spring 2010—tarte for Hayden-Harnett!

New York Fashion Week is in full swing and the tartelettes are happy to grant you a ‘backstage pass’ to Hayden-Harnett’s “Lava Fields of Love” presentation! Inspired by a nomadic journey through lava fields and desert landscapes; the creative talents behind the Brooklyn label created a warm, natural feeling collection with hints of pop color. tarte’s artistry team used these concepts to create a flawless makeup look. Think: warm complexion with a strong, geometric brow and barely there lips. You can easily re-create the look for this fall, but be sure to avoid looking baked! Here’s a tip from lead tarte artist Laura McGuire, “…a bronzing powder with gold undertones (park ave princess) was used directly on the apples of the cheeks, and then our natural tipsy cheek stain was used on top for an extra healthy, warm glow.” Check out our fashion week collection page to snag some of the products used! http://www.tartecosmetics.com/tarte-shop-fashion-week-spring2010

Fall Trend Alert–GREEN!

I couldn’t be more excited because my favorite color is making its way into the limelight for fall: GREEN! I used to prefer more olive hues, but this season I’ll be walking the line of rich, earthy and forest versions. Everything from leather boots and fur-trimmed bombers to matte lacquered nails will be seeing green. During fall Fashion Week green was all over the runway and I particularly loved this fun punky 80’s-ish look from Louis Vuitton. Although, it’s a bit emerald I think it’s fabulous! If dressing green is a bit much for you all I can say is…incorporate with accessories! Try Rebecca Minkoff ‘clutch’, polish from OPI’S España collection or tarte’s infamous emphasEYES eyeliner. Go one step further and decorate the room with a Cire Trudon candle in odeur de lune (the scent of the moon). So as September rolls in and our tans fade, green proves a perfect match to our fair complexions—very enchanted forest.

Subtle Citrus Kicks

Now that Fashion Week has wrapped, I have the itch to shop (surprise surprise). It’s all about finding the perfect accessories to punch up the preexisting items in my closet. While out on one of my many shopping adventures I couldn’t help but notice the surplus of orange patent and saddle leather shoe combos. I love it!! We already know that camel goes with just about everything. Not to mention that this favored color comes in an array of summer textures. The extra hint of this neon orange is the perfect burst of excitement—total happy feet! In this picture are edgy 4.5” BCBG architectural peep toes and K. Jacques casual patent thongs. With tarte’s glam gams and a pair of these stunners I promise to put my best foot forward this spring.

tarte & NY Fashion Week (Abaeté)

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York Fall 2009 has officially kicked off! Press, celebs, and the who’s who in fashion are dressing their best and flocking to the tents. Even more exciting, the tarte team assisted celebrity makeup artist Tina Turnbow at the Abaeté show today! In typical Fashion Week style backstage was a little chaotic, but the final look was amazing—think old world masculinity meets modern day femme. Abaeté designer Laura Poretzky was inspired by Les Incroyables, a group of gentlemen who formed in the 18th Century after the French Revolution. Using this inspiration, our team created perfectly polished, dewy complexions with a hint of color. According to Poretzky, this season the Abaeté woman is rebellious while staying true to herself. We like the sound of that!
