holiday gift guide: funny girl

An award-winning comedian and writer, Sara Benincasa has a natural talent for eliciting laughter and accolades. We first fell in love with her through her book Agorafabulous! Dispatches From My Bedroom, a personal and touching account of her battle with agoraphobia — it’s also “freaking hilarious” according to Newsweek.com.

We were curious to see what this witty lady would be giving and getting this holiday. She graciously gave us a peek. More >

wine week: sparkling inspiration

We believe there’s a grape to suit any event, time of day, and budget – whether you’re craving a casual afternoon refreshment or the perfect beverage for a fancy dinner party. But there’s one genre of wine that is specially reserved for celebrations: the sparkling variety. And with good reason! What could be more festive, more congratulatory, more fete-worthy than a beautiful bubbly? The very pop of the cork is enough to put us in a jovial mood.
So cheers to whatever occasion you find bubble-worthy — and make sure to always have a few shimmery outfits to match.

Prosecco

Prosecco is a sparkling wine that hails from Italy — one that is a little more fruity than the typical champagne. It’s your classic bubbly, with a little bite! General tasting notes: pears, apples, honey.

It’s All About the Cat Eye

Striking and boldly feminine, the cat eye is a makeup classic. That thick slash of black eyeliner on the top lid is both girlie and mysterious — and it’s definitely back in style.

While the ladies of Mad Men have been sporting the look for a couple of years now, new shows like Pam Am — an office obsession — and The Playboy Club — no one’s obsessionhave made it hard to escape the timeless style, no matter what channel you’re on.  Considering that the cat eye was originally popularized by beauty icons as versatile as Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn and factory girl Eddie Sedgwick, why wouldn’t you give it a try?

So go ahead, dip your toe into the pool of retro glam. In fact we’ll help you take the plunge. We asked Jen to film a quick and easy beginners guide to applying a softer, daytime cat eye with our multiplEYE lash enhancing liquid eyeliner. Check it out and let us know what you think!

Get Kristin Bauer’s Look

As vampy vixen Pam on the show, Kristin Bauer looked every bit her character when she stepped in to Sephora 5 Times Square for our Fashion’s Night Out event last Thursday. It was a look to die for, with sparkling crimson lips, a just-bitten flush, and smoldering vixen eyes thanks to the tarte™ for True Blood™ collection.

Once we saw Kristin, we knew we would be recreating the look on ourselves at home, so we asked tarte makeup artist Tony Ballard to share  how he achieved Kristin’s vampy glam:

Overall Inspiration: “I was inspired by Kristin’s True Blood® character Pam – I wanted her to be sassy, but still classic with a strong red lip.”

complexion & cheeks

-Tony smoothed Kristin’s complexion with tarte’s smooth operator™ tinted moisturizer in agent 12.

-Then he dabbed the tarte™ for True Blood™cheek stain on the apples of her cheeks and topped it off with tarte’s Amazonian clay shimmering powder in rose for instant radiance and subtle sheen.

-He set her complexion with tarte’s smooth operator™ Amazonian clay finishing powder.

eyes

-From the tarte™ for True Blood™ palette, he applied a soft wash of “the light,” a shimmering warm ivory over the entire lid, and then highlighted Kristin’s crease with “dusk,” a matte warm taupe.

-For extra drama to celebrate the evening, he used tarte’s multiplEYE™ lash enhancing liquid liner in black along her upper lash line.

-He then coated her top and bottom lashes with tarte’s gifted Amazonian clay smart mascara.

lips

-To complete Kristin’s look, Tony used tarte’s LipSurgence™ matte lip tint in fiery, a matte red, on her sexy pout.

Are you daring enough to try this look yourself? Show us! Post pictures of your vampy vixen self on our Facebook page.
